#JumpStart2021 #2020ReadYouNeverGotTo #GenreBusting I missed yesterday‘s prompt coz I was out most of the day(birthday lunch with the MIL then movie & dinner with hubs)so it‘s a double whammy today. Bk5 of the Cormorant Strike series has been on my TBR for a few months, I will get to it this year🤞, Bk1 of the Space Unicorn series is a strange mashup of fantasy with SciFi. There‘s unicorns, fairies, dryads etc all gallivanting round the universe!

Because I'm slightly obsessed with Alexis Hall I follow him on GR. I was intrigued by his review of this one. Male alien (basically a giant insect) unintentionally kidnaps human girl, mistaking her for his otherworldly penpal/girlfriend. So begins a bonkers sci-fi/erotic romance/dystopian #GenreBusting romp. I'm not into sci-fi or dystopia, but it was a winner for me on the romance front. And, as Alexis says, the alien sex is A+😂

Lizpixie The classic Greek Myth about the kidnapping of Helen, Wife of Menelaus, by Paris, Prince of Troy & the subsequent siege of Troy by Menelaus, his brother Agamemnon & the Greek armies. Of course it ends in bloodshed, tears & many deaths before the fighting is done. All over one silly woman.🙄🏺🛡🗡 3y

Interlocking stories of “urban Indians” living in Oakland. I found each individual story to be fascinating and even though I couldn‘t keep track of all of them as they linked up, it felt like a complete novel leading up to a climactic event and the tension built toward it over the novel. Told a different type of Native American story than others I have heard about/read. Seen this reviewed as #genrebusting so it‘s my pick for #booked2019.

Mehso-so

This mix of women's lives and relationships with sci-fi didn't quite work for me. I was much more interested in the comedic portrayal of a Silicon Valley workaholic than the tech-gone-wrong storyline.

StephanieMarie @BarbaraTheBibliophage Honestly it is a WEIRD book and I wasn't super into it for most of it, but the ending came through for me. I'm planning to watch the show soon 5y

A shortish book that packs a lot in. It‘s true crime mixed with memoir but also so much more. Very well written. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #genrebusting #booked2019

I enjoyed this alternative history, speculative fiction, western short story. In fact, I think this will qualify as a #genrebusting choice for #Booked2019.

Once in American history there was a discussion of bringing hippos to the states as a cattle species in the marshes & bayous of the south. This story is set in a world where cowboys and gunfights occurred with hippos, such a fun imaginary trip based on an alternate historical possibility.

JSW I‘ve always loved hippos; I may need this on principle. 😂😂😂 5y

BarbaraTheBibliophage Wow. That is kind of crazy! 5y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BarbaraTheBibliophage Right! It made me think of that part in The World Without Us and the discussion of bringing in elephants into the plains to basically replace the buffalo. Crazy and so fun to think about. 5y

This was a really weird yet engrossing book. Part is historical accounts of Lincoln and the other is a historical fiction ghost story.
I don't think this could be more #genrebusting
