HE WAS NAKED IN A STRANGE BED, one of those beds that stands in a closet all day, like a bad child.

Pickpick

Read for June‘s #DiverseCozy pick.
It‘s a soft pick for me. I liked the MC, a transvestite in Istanbul, Turkey which is unique & appealing. I struggled a bit with both the translation which felt awkward & choppy & the references to people, history & current events that I know nothing about & were not explained well. The end of my Kindle did include a glossary which would have been helpful in the beginning (I should have looked for it.) Also, ⬇️

DebinHawaii …the “mystery” fell a bit flat & our MC didn‘t seem all that interested in actually solving it to me. There are two more books in this series but unless I were to come across them discounted, I don‘t think I‘ll try to read them & continue with it. Still, an interesting read that I am happy to have been exposed to. #SeriesLove2023 (edited) 10mo

Thank you, @psalva for introducing our #LPMBC to this author and series. I was pretty immediately drawn in by the intense, passionate voice. The writing, characters, and themes are so compelling, to say nothing of the murder he‘s investigating. Benjamin Justice is troubled, fierce, empathetic, and righteous. I‘d like to read more. 🕵️‍♀️

@psalva I just wanted to say thank you for picking this gem. I fell in love with Ben, Maurice and Fred, and the rest of the crazy characters in here. Loved it and am gonna check out the rest of this series. @Michael_Gee this will be in the mail to you hopefully tomorrow.

psalva So glad you liked it. Maurice and Fred were my favorite! 1y
Michael_Gee Reggie, your first note in this book made me laugh out loud (Blanche from Golden Girls). 1y
Reggie @Michael_Gee that first paragraph definitively sets the tone. Lol. I loved this book. 1y

I finished my Litsy Markup Postal Book Club read for November a little early. I‘m going to hold off on a review I think until the rest of the group reads it. However, I will say it was a page turner. #lmpbc #groupl

psalva @Reggie I sent this off today for the book club, Group L. Should get to you by Friday I hope. 1y
Reggie I look forward to it, bud. 1y

Interesting look back at the communist purges in the artistic community. Lots of historical references as usual with Vidal's work. The mystery was confusing enough that I was never certain I'd figured it out.

Without naming names, Buse tells the owner of the transvestite night club where she hangs out that she still has letters and photos from a youthful liaison with an important public figure who very much wants the evidence to disappear. The next day, Buse is murdered but the police are uninterested, so the only way to find the murderer is to find the letters and photos.

rwmg A fascinating narrator and some very funny scenes in this thriller set in an interesting milieu. Unfortunately the font in this ebook was unable to cope with Turkish diacritics, which was distracting at times. 2y

(Completed series)

While on sabbatical to recover from the events of the previous book, Russell Quant receives a voicemail from Jane Cross asking him for help. He returns to Saskatchewan only to find that she has been murdered.

This serves a fitting, if at times rather dark, close to a series which focussed on beautiful people wearing beautiful clothes and eating and drinking fine foods and beverages in exotic locales.
