When Breath Becomes Air | Paul Kalanithi
post image
Pickpick

#WhenIGrowUp, he thought, I will be a famous neurosurgeon, but it went different. Kalanithi died of cancer at 37 years old.

The way he approaches the diagnosis is very scientific, probably the only way for him to deal with the situation. I can understand but it made this a difficult read for me as it felt very detached. The epilogue by his wife was heartbreaking though. How I wish for a world without cancer.

#MusicalNewYear #ReadingUSA2019 CA

LapReader I found his wife was the better writer. She brought me to tears. 5y
catebutler I felt the same way about this book. The afterword by his wife, was my favourite part of the book! 😢 5y
Cinfhen Same @LapReader @catebutler @BarbaraBB The wife‘s epilogue was 💔 You know she remarried the husband who lost his wife to cancer 5y

Cinfhen Stunning photo 5y
Kaye Good job , completing CA. How many or what states do you have dine so far ? Are you picking in any order or just randomly ? I‘m just doing the random way 5y
NatalieR Such a good book! Great pic too!! 5y
BarbaraBB @Cinfhen Really? That is quite special I think. I haven‘t read that one and I don‘t know if I can handle another such memoir any time soon 💔 5y
BarbaraBB @LapReader @catebutler I think because her part was more emotional I liked it better, I felt I could connect to her in a way I couldn‘t to her husband. 5y
BarbaraBB @kaye I‘ve read 5 states so far. I read them randomly and will post a map (the one you shared with me) at the end of the month to keep track of my progressing! 5y
Cathythoughts I loved this one ♥️👍🏻 5y
erzascarletbookgasm For me, the epilogue saves the book..brought tears to my eyes. 5y
Cinfhen I‘ve heard that memoir is also heartbreaking. I‘ve lost to many people to breast cancer, and 2 of my 4 SIL are breast cancer survivors, I don‘t think I can read that memoir either 😢But I do love that their spouses found each other💕💕💕 5y
BarbaraBB @Cinfhen Oh no, that would be a real hard read for you then. 😢 5y
BarbaraBB @erzascarletbookgasm I agree, it would be a so-so without the epilogue for me! 5y
Librarybelle Nice review and beautiful photo! 5y
Kaye Good job ,Barbara , will be interested to see your map. 5y
Crazeedi @Cinfhen I did not know she remarried! 5y
Cinfhen Yes @Crazeedi it‘s sort of a modern day love story 💕I‘m happy for them & their children 5y
emilyhaldi Ugh, this is sitting on my shelf bc @Reviewsbylola convinced me to pick it up at a library sale, but I don't know if I will ever have the strength to read it 😆💙 5y
BarbaraBB @emilyhaldi My mascara was on my lips once I finished the epilogue this morning 😭 5y
Reviewsbylola I‘ve read this twice now. 😭😭😭 5y
vivastory This sounds like such a difficult book 5y
vivastory Emotionally anyways 5y
Pricel101 @Cinfhen @BarbaraBB @kaye it‘s a hard read. @samjmitchell agree books like this need to be read & talked about! 💜🙏💜 5y
samjmitchell I read it and agree! The beginning with him I asked a lot of questions - if this was my scenario, what would I do? (Funny enough, it became mine and I don‘t think I could read it now). The ending with his wife was very moving. That‘s a different cover then I‘ve seen here in Canada!! @Pricel101 (edited) 5y
BarbaraBB @samjmitchell I am so sorry for you to hear that. This book must be way too hard to read for you now. I wish you all the best and strength and luck and miracles 🍀💕 5y
