The Eyre Affair: A Novel | Jasper Fforde
post image

I‘m thinking of picking the tagged book for this prompt, since it gets so much Litsy love (83%). But I also wanted to research some new and uncommon options. Other ideas would be the Kay Scarpetta books from Patricia Cornwall. Kathy Reichs‘ Temperance Brennan. Sue Grafton‘s Kinsey Millhone. Alexander McCall Smith‘s Precious Ramotswe.

What are your ideas and suggestions??

#booked2019 #cohostresearch #femaledetective

LaLecture Thanks for this good idea :D. I still have it on my tbr and now I know how I can use it next year 😄. I was thinking of Agatha Christie‘s Miss Marple as I have never read any of Christie‘s books but that would be a pretty popular choice too. 5y
saresmoore I think @Moray_Reads would have some great recs for this prompt. 5y

rwmg Marilyn Todd's Claudia Sefirus series set in Ancient Rome or Elizabeth Peters's Amelia Peabody series about a Victorian Egyptologist/detective. Both very very funny 5y
Jerdencon The Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear is good too. Also love Tana French. 5y
Librarybelle I liked this one: 5y
MaleficentBookDragon I really like Kelley Armstrong's series 5y
erinreads I recently read the first of the Alex Morrow series and liked it well enough to give the next one a go. 5y
KathyWheeler I love Linda Barnes‘ Carlotta Carlyle series. Laura Lippman‘s Tess Monaghan series is good as well. 5y
jessinikkip I have always loved the Bones books 5y
Cinfhen Such excellent suggestions! #LittensAreTheBest @erinreads @MaleficentBookDragon @Librarybelle @Jerdencon @rwmg @LaLecture @writerlibrarian would any of these detectives qualify as an ammeter detective?? #Pop19 5y
rwmg @Cinfhen Claudia Sefirus is the widow of a wine merchant trying to run her late husband's business, while Amelia Peabody is od independent means who has taken to Egyptology 5y
Cinfhen Ahhh, that‘s really helpful!!! Thanks @rwmg I might be able to #DoubleDip with one book!!!! 😜 5y
BarbaraBB I am going to read the next book in Karin Slaughter‘s Grant County series. (Sara Linton is a pediatrician and part-time coroner, so an amateur detective @Cinfhen !) 5y
Cathythoughts This sounds really interesting .. it will be hard to decide.. I‘m thinking of following on in the Detective Inspector Huss series.. 4th investigation (edited) 5y
Cinfhen So many options @BarbaraBB 🤗🤗 5y
sprainedbrain I just loved the first few Scarpetta books when I was in high school! The Eyre Affair is so fun, though. I chose this one (from my tbr pile): 5y
Moray_Reads The Eyre Affair is something totally different, it's a lot of fun with some brilliant literary wordplay. I'm more of a cozy mystery reader but you could try TE Kinsey, Robin Stevens or Mary Roberts if you want to try that angle 5y
alisiakae I plan on reading a different Tana French book for this prompt, 5y
alisiakae Another great series is 5y
Jennifer3 I loved the Scarpetta books, I was thinking I need to read the ones I missed on 2019. 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @writerlibrarian I‘ve heard such good things about this series, and I have the first book on my Kindle shelf. Thanks! 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @LaLecture I originally thought of Christie too, but think I‘ll end up with a more current book. 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Moray_Reads It‘s good to have some cozies on the list also. Thanks! 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Jennifer3 Her early books were so much better than the later ones. I just lost interest ... 5y
Jennifer3 @BarbaraTheBibliophage I had heard that.... 5y
KathyWheeler @BarbaraTheBibliophage and @Jennifer3 The early Scarpetta books were so much better! At some point they started getting ridiculous, and I quit reading them. 5y
Jennifer3 @KathyWheeler @BarbaraTheBibliophage I hate when that happens to authors but since I can‘t see myself being a writer, I have no ability in the creative arena. I image it can get hard with the same style and character over time. Her early books were impossible to put down. 5y
GlassAsDiamonds What about Kerry Greenwood‘s Phryne Fisher or Corina Chapman series ? @Cinfhen - Corina certainly qualifies as an amateur detective! 😊 They‘re easy, fast & fun reads but always very well written, immaculately edited and very well researched. 5y
Cinfhen Thanks for the recommendation @GlassAsDiamonds will see if I can find the tagged book xx 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Jennifer3 @KathyWheeler I‘m always sad when authors fall into the doldrums. It must be hard to know when to stop a series. I‘m sure they‘re damned if they do, and damned if they don‘t. 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @GlassAsDiamonds More good ideas!! Thanks! 5y
KathyWheeler @BarbaraTheBibliophage I agree on this. I don‘t have a creative bone in my body, so I don‘t judge authors too harshly for this as I know I couldn‘t even write their “bad” books! It does make me sad though. 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @KathyWheeler Oh, for sure. I can‘t imagine writing one fiction book, let alone a series! 5y
Jennifer3 @BarbaraTheBibliophage KathyWheeler It is definitely sad! 5y
