Once Upon a Camel | Kathi Appelt

Inspired by a story her grandfather told her when she was a child, Appelt has crafted a delightful story about a camel who must take care of two kestrel chicks who get separated from their parents during a dust storm. The camel distracts the chicks by telling them stories about her life & how she went from being a prized racing camel in Turkey to living in Texas. Adventure, found family, & a wonderful storytelling make this MG book a winner.

The start of a new adventure 🏰📖

I put this book on my #bookspin list, but I just can't wait to start it 😅 If it's the book that gets drawn, I guess I'll substitute the next book in the series!

Muktar and the Camels | Janet Graber, Scott Mack

This book was such a great read, and I highly recommend having this book in your classroom as it will surely enrich your students‘ awareness of different cultures. In addition, Janet Graber did an excellent job of using the setting and location of this story as a focal point in detailing Muktar‘s life and the struggles of living in Kenya and Somalia during this time.

Emma_Barcena This text's genre is HF. This book has not received any awards. This text would best be used as a S in the classroom alongside this resource where students can create a story map after the S is over to support their comprehension of the story and recognizing the author's purpose in writing it.

Emma_Barcena The UDL Principles 3.2 & 9.1 in regard to highlighting big ideas and promoting expectation to optimize motivation can be used alongside EL 6 & 14 to ensure comprehension is occurring when storytelling by simplifying speech and reading slowly with this text being used. #UCFLAE3414su20 (edited) 4y
DrSpalding You initially did these back before the pandemic when you could go to the CMC. Once we have the option to use that resource again, be sure to check out amazing books for your students. The story map is an excellent post reading or storytelling activity. 4y

Cute children‘s book about an old (kinda grumpy) camel asked to carry gifts to Baby Jesus. Loved the illustrations.

A great twist on the traditional Christmas story. Humphrey, one of the camels who accompanied the wise-men to Bethlehem, learns a lesson about what it means to be selfless. Wonderful illustrations and a great read-aloud book. #wintergames #thefilthyanimals

Another beautiful Christmas story told from an unusual perspective. A camel, who is making a pilgrimage to Bethlehem, is given gifts to bring to the Christ child. He is given so many things that he doesn‘t think he can make it to the stable, but he knows that the load he carries is precious beyond belief. It‘s an unexpectedly beautiful story.

What does it feel like to finish crossing the Australian Outback? The Appalachian Trail? The Continental Divide Trail? The Pacific Crest Trail?
