The Age of Innocence | Edith Wharton

Pickpick

Ah, how stifling and pretentious, the elite society, where conventions, and conformity to the social codes are the rules. This tale about love, passion, and choices, tells of characters living their lives by the rules of society, and of not following their hearts. The writing beautifully captures the essence of the era and place. Wharton makes us love and get angry at the characters at the same time. 👇

erzascarletbookgasm (cont..) It‘s heartbreaking and offers a satirical look at 19th century New York privileged society. Really memorable. 👍 5y
