Mehso-so

A truly fascinating story. Hedy Lamarr was an amazing woman, but this book, just so-so.
For historical fiction to work for me, I want beautiful language and a true sense of place, so I can feel lost in another era. With so much life to cover- Hedy‘s escape from Austria, movie career, many marriages, and her brilliant scientific discoveries-this makes for a thrilling story. But drop the dialogue, and this could have been biography. #MoreMehThanYeah

Redwritinghood I‘m almost finished with this one and I agree. So much is just glossed over or told without any substance behind it. 5y

Pickpick

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I enjoyed this book more than I anticipated. The ending pissed me off. To know how hard Hedy worked towards not only escaping her abusive first husband, but also finding a way to help defeat the Axis Powers with an invention that could have changed the entire outcome of WWII to be dismissed because she was a beautiful movie star is infuriating.
