Panpan

Dear Ms. Ware,
It is with sincere regret that I write my first Litsy Pan review in ages. I anticipated this book, especially when it was spoken of with the same hushed tones & reverence as Riley Sager's "Lock Every Door." Just because you have managed a twist, & I'll admit, I was surprised doesn't mean it saves an otherwise muddled mess. Ask M Night Shyamalan. If you haven't already, please read Tana French's "Broken Harbor." Similar ideas. Hers?

vivastory just happens to be much much better. You might learn a thing. Or two. Sincerely, Reader beWARE 5y
MicheleinPhilly HA! She and I don‘t get along well. 5y
Melissa_J Have you liked any of her other books? I‘ve enjoyed all of them, but haven‘t read this one yet and now I‘m scared to 😂 5y

OnlyYoo Uh that‘s so sad because I really want to read this but I‘ve disliked two of her other books 😭 5y
KT1432 Lol aw man I normally don't end up liking these books but I really enjoyed this one. 😂 5y
Billypar I also had a rare 'Pan' recently, and unless there are some changes in one of my current reads, another is in the pipeline. I can probably count my previous pans on one hand. Hope it's not part of a trend 😬 5y
vivastory @Melissa_J This is the first one I've ever read by her. I'll give her another chance. It just might be a little bit before I do. 5y
vivastory @MicheleinPhilly There was something about her style in this one that really bugged me. I haven't read her other books, but I'm definitely not in a rush 5y
vivastory @OnlyYoo it's a fairly quick read, but I don't recommend 😬😂 5y
vivastory @lele1432 I was really surprised by my reaction. Maybe she's just not for me. If you haven't read it, I highly recommend 5y
vivastory @Billypar Although reading a book I hate feels like a waste of time. Writing a review of it is a blast. I find a review of a bad book can teach me more about books than a good review. If we rate something poorly it's because, among other things, it failed to include or poorly executed certain literary tropes & themes that are important to us as readers. Their absence in books we dislike is a good reminder of what we really treasure in books. 5y
Billypar @vivastory That's true: after long good streaks, a pan is almost a relief- otherwise I feel like I'm not discerning enough. It's true that they make you realize how much work goes into your favorites to create the effects they achieve. And, yeah, the pans are fun to write 😼 5y
KT1432 Stacking it! 5y
LeahBergen 😆😆 Okay, I really need some more #VivastorysSnarkyReviews in my life! 😆😆 5y
erzascarletbookgasm Haha! I‘m a Tana French fan (the last book of hers I read WAS Broken Harbour). I have this one stacked..maybe no hurry to read it but I‘m curious 😊 5y
erzascarletbookgasm @RealBooks4ever Mrs Westaway was my first Ruth Ware, I enjoyed it. 5y
eloreads I‘m glad someone else dislikes it, I‘m almost done with it and haven‘t liked any of it. I‘m more bored than intrigued. 5y
vivastory @eloreads I found it very very boring 5y
vivastory @LeahBergen I'm not going to lie, this was alot of fun to write 😂 5y
Centique @vivastory I love this review 😂 And your analysis about pans in your comment to @Billypar is spot on. I worry about writing pans and upsetting someone who loves the book but pan reviews are so much fun really! 5y
