Mehso-so

This cover is so cool.

This is definitely not for squeamish readers. I really liked the idea and the social commentary, but I got a bit lost in the end.

⭐️⭐️⭐️,5 stars

Moonprismpower I‘m reading this now, it is very dark and I think after I‘m done I‘ll see if there were any podcasts talking about this book so I can better understand it or reflect on the good parts. I had to do the same thing with Bunny by Mona Awad. 3y

@Branwen OH MY GOD WHY DIDN‘T YOU WARN ME?! I was so attached to Lewis. Now I‘m wondering if all those guys killed the guy at the very beginning, or if it was the elk. The next time a baby dear runs up to me on a hike, I‘m running for my life!!!

GingerAntics @Branwen so let me guess, the best idea is to not get attacked to any of the characters then? 2 down, 2 to go? 3y

Taking this for a spin. Hopefully I won‘t regret listening to it at night. Apparently it‘s a good Halloween read.

Texreader Uhoh! Good luck! I‘ll be anxious to hear how it goes. 3y
GingerAntics @Texreader so far, so good. There was actually an amusing Dr. Quinn joke in there. Great story so far, but headed to bed now. 3y
Oldschool_millenial There's so much out there by white authors that distort Native American culture and folklore that the premise had me worried, but I was relieved to learn that the author is Blackfeet. I really want to read this and his other stories 3y

GingerAntics @Oldschool_millenial I totally agree. I check any book that‘s supposedly about indigenous culture of any kind, from any country, and make sure it‘s written by an authentic source. Not only is the author Blackfeet, the person who reads it is also of Native American descent. I like that they kept it authentic throughout. 3y
Oldschool_millenial YES! Let the talent shine! 3y
GingerAntics @Oldschool_millenial Shaun Taylor-Corbet is amazing reading this story. I haven‘t been freaked out yet, but their is definitely a supernatural element to it that I‘m quite enjoying. 3y
Branwen This looks super interesting! Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it! 3y
GingerAntics @Branwen it‘s so good so far. If I didn‘t have to sleep or work, I‘d probably be done with it by now. 3y
Branwen @GingerAntics How long is it? 3y
GingerAntics @Branwen about 8 hours and 40 minutes. I listen to audiobook as 2x the speed or my mind wanders, so it would be more like 4 hours 20 minutes for me. 😂 If work and sleep would just leave me alone that long. 😂🤣😂 3y

Thanks Netgalley for an opportunity to read/review this book! It follows the vengeful spirit of an elk and her unborn calf as she enacts revenge. Graham fleshes out the four main characters through their relationships with loved ones, the internal and external struggles with both staying and leaving their land, and the unspoken uneasiness of what they did to the elk. Disjointed at times, but still worth the read! #TheOnlyGoodIndians #NetGalley

This is tough. I‘d be lying if I said I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I struggled. A lot. However, I do think parts are amazingly written. The story overall is fascinating and horrifying. (Don‘t read if you‘re squeamish.) Often I felt it got bogged down - It would have been a better novella. But I liked the way the book emulates Native American oral storytelling tradition. He credits Louise Erdrich as an inspiration and that is evident. Try it.

Bookgirl Thank you NetGalley for the free ARC in exchange for an honest review. And for helping me experience new to me authors. #NetGalley #TheOnlyGoodIndians 4y
