Braiding Sweetgrass | Robin Wall Kimmerer

Almost a year after @Cinfhen put it on my radar I‘m finally reading Braiding Sweetgrass. I‘m reading/listening to one chapter a day so I will finish at the end of the month. Katee on the Currently Reading podcast suggested that on this week‘s show, so that was the push I needed. Perfect for #NonfictionNovember

akaGingerK Oh, good plan! I switched from book to audio on this one when my ability to focus… broke for awhile. I still have ~9 hours of audio even though I am enjoying it! 1y
Cinfhen I hope you enjoy 😊 this book was put on my #ReaderRadar by the amazing @ReadingEnvy Jenny Colvin (RIP) 1y
MallenNC @Cinfhen Oh that makes it more special. I am enjoying it so far. 1y
MallenNC @akaGingerK I definitely relate to losing the ability to focus. Also I tend to rush through reading sometimes so I thought this approach would allow me to appreciate the writing more. 1y

I strongly disliked her first essay collection (tagged ⬇️), so I almost passed on this one, but it was actually pretty funny. Klein writes humorously about the first five years raising her only child in her early 40s. Is it a bit rich white famous people problems? Sure, but I still laughed. Her essays on toilet training and finding the right clothes with a mom bod were especially funny. A good #BorrowNotBuy #audiobook.

Cinfhen It‘s on #Scribd so it‘s on my #ReaderRadar #SomedaySoon - thanks for the tag xx 2y
Megabooks @Cinfhen it‘s fun but okay to wait imo. 2y

I can‘t remember who put the tagged book on my #ReaderRadar but I was super excited when I spotted it in my parents LFL 😍There were a BUNCH of treasures but due to luggage weight restriction I only took two… I left 5 🥰 I‘ve been meaning to read the Shavit for ages!!! So two wins!!!

marleed Oh I‘m just giddy when I find a book from my TBR in an LFL. I loved 100 years! 2y
Cinfhen And they both are in GREAT condition @marleed 😁 2y
TrishB I enjoyed the tagged one 😁 2y

Loved this 🎧1929 Punjab - Three girls picked for three brothers as child brides. The girls are unaware of which brother has been chosen for them as they are married under heavy veils, their husbands identities hidden. 1999 - a great grandson returns to the rural village seeking shelter and fresh beginnings. Audio narration was excellent & my view was wonderful 🏖

Cinfhen I‘m sure you had good reasons for hating this book @Vansa but I really was compelled by the girls story. I‘m with you @squirrelbrain @JamieArc @Megabooks @TracyReadsBooks (edited) 2y

Cinfhen Apparently NOT in my beach bag @TrishB 😓I really enjoyed this one @Megabooks you definitely were responsible for putting it on my #ReaderRadar 2y
Vansa Here's my full review, but tldr version:shallow, horrible character depictions,historically....nonsensical,stilted language.Basically emblematic of everything that irritates me about Indian diaspora fiction. It didn't deserve to be considered for a Booker at all,in a year with better books. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/4016686811 2y
Cinfhen I read your full review and I can absolutely feel why you were so disappointed and frustrated with this book. I think when one has some background knowledge ( which I do not) one expects certain criteria to be met. So while I enjoyed the story I see how I was given an incomplete and stilted view. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me @Vansa 💕 (edited) 2y
britt_brooke Beautiful photo! I‘ve spent so little time on litsy lately, I totally missed that you were stateside! Looks like a good time. Nice and relaxing, I hope! 2y
Vansa @Cinfhen thanks a lot for reading the review and taking the time for such a nuanced response!! 😀 2y

My #weeklyforecast. Sticking to shorter, quicker reads coming to the end of the year. Let‘s finish 2020 strong, and leave this year behind!

Cinfhen Ohhh, I‘ve been meaning to read The March trilogy/ thanks for putting it back on my #ReaderRadar 🥰 3y
