pickOn September 11, 2001 the American airspace was shut down following the terrorist attacks. While we were all watching the horror unfold there were dozens of planes in the air that had to be redirected. 38 planes ended up in Gander, Newfoundland. The citizens of Gander came together to shelter 7,000 unexpected visitors, including Kevin Tuerff, who was stranded on his way home to Texas.
And yes, one of the Kevins in Come From Away is based on him.
GondorGirl The book is part memoir, part history of a movement (#PayItForwardDay), part spiritual reawakening. Taurff is straightforward and well spoken, and I see why he's been so successful with his companies and charity work. If you want to feel better about humanity and/or are a fan of the musical I'd give this one a read. The audio book is also well done and widely available. 5y
