Riveted_Reader_Melissa I liked it, definitely one of his YA reads, much more simple and straightforward, but it was a quick and enjoyable read. 4y

julesG @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I totally forgot about this month's book and will probably read it later, in preparation for book 2. I hope the library has it. Totally goofed. 🙈 4y
gossamerchild This was not my favorite Pratchett. I felt like the satire was much more heavy handed, and so I didn't enjoy reading it as much. 4y
Gezemice It was definitely for kids, and very much stuck in its time. Today‘s kids play lots of video games, too, but there is a huge variety, and many do not involve killing everything in sight. But back then it would have been probably accurate. He is also making a parralel between a game that is a war and a war that looks like a game on TV - the first Gulf War. As Pratchett is always on top of trends, he could see how dangerous is trivializing war. 4y
Gezemice @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I thought the first half was boring, but it picks up in the second, story-wise. Towards the end I could not help but smile at how the 12 year olds‘ dialogue was so similarly silly to Adam and his friends in Good Omens. I thought it was enjoyable but I would not recommend it to other than Pratchett fans - too dated. He has better ones. @gossamerchild 4y
