Should I be concerned that my library tracking app thinks Charles Darwin is fiction? Yes, I corrected it. It‘s now listed under Science.

@TheBookHippie I found the death bed edition as an audiobook for about $15. I figured maybe hearing it would be better and make it clearer. I‘ve get this ready with the edition you suggested for later in the year. There will be poetry not about oceans. 😏

TheBookHippie 🤣🤣🤣 yay.... 4y
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie it‘s narrated by “full cast” so there‘s no telling who will read the ocean/not ocean dirty poetry!!! 🌊🌊🌊 4y
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics ohhh so exciting !!! 4y
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie I‘ll keep you posted. 😏🌊🤣 4y

Okay, Litens, I need your help. I got Dr. Quinn on DVD and I‘m watching the library episode. I‘m trying to make a list for a friend and I of all the books mentioned in this episode, and we‘re not sure what to make of the above reference. We think it could be Jane Austen‘s Sense and Sensibility, but we‘re not sure. Can anyone think of anything it could be? #DrQuinnReadingList #BlameDrMike #DrQuinn #namethatbook

Butterfinger Wish I could help. 4y
Ericalambbrown My first thought is Elizabeth Gaskell. She was a friend of Dickens and they shared a desire to write with a social conscience. I can think of a couple of her characters that were prostitutes and other sorts of “fallen” women. (edited) 4y
GingerAntics @Ericalambbrown ooooh... she could be the one. The time frame is perfect and she seems famous enough to have made it to Boston in time to be included in the library in question. I‘m thinking you‘ve got it. I knew I could count on you guys!!! 4y

Ericalambbrown Well, this has got me thinking. . . Mary Wollstonecraft wrote about prostitution outright in a nonfiction sense. If the character was at all progressive, he could have meant her. Also George Eliot. She had a little bit to say in both Middlemarch and Mill on the Floss about women having no options other than prostitution. This got me thinking! Thank you! 😊 4y
GingerAntics @Ericalambbrown he could have been. She talks about him being open minded and all that. Is it‘s from the mid-19th century or sooner it could all apply. 4y
GingerAntics @Ericalambbrown I think, in a way, we‘re trying to “reconstruct” and read his library from what is mentioned or read in the show. Conceivably, all three could be in there. I‘m going to put down all three and see what she thinks. I‘m voting all three are in there. lol 4y
Ericalambbrown @GingerAntics That‘s awesome! What a fun thing to do 4y
GingerAntics @Ericalambbrown we‘re both readers (she‘s the fancy one with a MA in Lit) and we both love Dr. Quinn. Once we discovered this episode, we started compiling a list. Other books are mentioned in other episodes. We‘ve got 12 books, a book topic we‘re still deciphering, the genre of “poetry,” and 4 authors so far. It‘s not the Gilmore Girls list or anything, but it‘s fun... and still growing. (edited) 4y

Mehso-so

I managed to survive my first book of poetry. I read the first edition from 1855, and it seems the better edition is the deathbed edition. I plan to read the deathbed at some point, but I think I need some more experience with poetry before I dive back into Whitman.

GingerAntics I can honestly say I very rarely followed Whitman‘s line of thinking in his poetry. The longer the poem, the harder it was to follow the train of thought. I‘m just proud of myself for making it through. This was a mental exercise more than anything else. #WaltWhitman #LeavesofGrass #DrQuinnReadingList #BlameDrMike #poetrymatters 4y
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie I‘m definitely going to read the deathbed edition, I even have a copy of it ready to go, but I need some more time with poetry before I try Whitman again. Hopefully in a few months or maybe even at the beginning of 2021 I‘ll understand it better. Fingers crossed. 4y
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics it takes a bit!!! For fun watch With Honors the movie the way it‘s portrayed in there is a interesting think piece. I remember when I first read Sara Teasdale I was literally WTH did I just read and Ohmyword I love it 🤣🤷🏽‍♀️ Whitman was like that for a bit. Now it‘s like a worn out comfortable leather jacket. I‘m so glad you stuck with it, it‘ll come up in books and things and you‘ll say HEY I KNOW THAT! ❤️ 4y

GingerAntics @TheBookHippie I‘m still trying to figure out why Sully chose to read that on Dr. Quinn. At one point he tells Brian he doesn‘t have any book smarts, but clearly he does. lol 4y
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics 😂🤷🏽‍♀️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Was he reading Song of myself ?? Mr Book Hippie prefers Hemingway‘s lines 🤣 4y
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie 🤣😂🤣 Yes he was. 🤣😂🤣 That‘s how I knew that one part wasn‘t about the ocean. 🤣😂🤣 He read I Sing the Body Electric, too. 4y
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics 🤣🤣👏🏼👏🏼score! 4y
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie 🤣😂🤣 I think Sully was hiding the fact he was a genius and didn‘t need school, so Brian would go. It‘s the only logical explanation. 4y
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics I was working 72 hours a week when that was on so I never saw it 🤣 my friend was hooked and gave me “reports” during shift change ...so I feel like I watched it ! 4y
TheBookHippie She never mention Whitman I can‘t wait to see her for our monthly visit now! 4y
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie 🤣😂🤣 The show was on Amazon Video until a few weeks ago. I‘m hoping it comes back soon. That‘s really odd, seeing that the episode where Sully reads Whitman is called “The Library” and some books get burned, but then a few seasons later, Walt Whitman actually comes to Colorado Springs and Dr. Mike treats him. He was a major plot point twice. Beth Sullivan must be a Whitman fan. lol (edited) 4y
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics I‘ll watch for it to return I think our library has it ..must investigate ! 4y
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie it‘s a good show if strong female lead characters and period pieces are your thing. Sully doesn‘t read Whitman until the 3rd season I think, and Whitman doesn‘t come visit until the 5th season, I think. Still, good stuff all over. 4y
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics I have this little problem called insomnia 🤦🏽‍♀️ always looking for new stuff and Netflix ditched Frasier 😭 4y
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie oh, you and me both. Dr. Quinn is great for that!!! She does not stand for these Wild West men and their sexism. 4y
Butterfinger You should be proud. That was a huge accomplishment. 4y
GingerAntics @Butterfinger this was the first, 1855, edition, so it‘s actually much shorter. I think it‘s only got 12 poems on it. The deathbed edition is much larger, but hopefully I‘ll be properly prepared for it when I do read it. 4y

I could see this as a really cool way of starting a story about a child...and yet that‘s not really where this poem went.

I didn‘t understand much of this poem, but this is still a GREAT way to describe the talking heads in Congress right now.

This one made sense, maybe because I‘m somewhat familiar with the historical events of the time. I‘m going to have to look into the audio version when I read the death bed edition. I seem to understand better when I hear them.
