✨10/1: Ch. 12✨ Dinner at Diana‘s Place
📷 From DOW TV Show
Dinner ends in a smooch (or 3!)! Secrets are revealed. And we find out that Matthew is 1,500 years old! What are your thoughts!?!?! So exciting! I love this chapter so much.

Librarybelle It was a good chapter! 3y
Laughterhp I‘m loving this book! This chapter was great! 3y
peanutnine I enjoyed this chapter. I loved how hard Diana worked to make food that Matthew might enjoy. And I can't believe just how old he is! 😳 3y

Andrew65 That‘s an awful lot older than we all thought! An interesting chapter where we found out a lot more about Matthew and Diana‘s feelings for him. Really enjoying the book so far. 3y
ElizaMarie I really found it so sweet that she tried to create such a nice dinner for him. It was just a sweet moment they shared! 3y
catebutler Like everyone else mentioned, this was a really great chapter! I loved all the descriptions of food and scent, especially what Diana and Matthew smelled like to each other. The scent imagery was superb! And I also really enjoyed all the talk and discussion over alchemy and evolution. Love to attend a lecture on the topic! 3y
Lynnsoprano I love how the author takes the common vampire tropes and manipulates them to fit her interpretation of the different creatures. We learn a lot more about vampires, along with Diana. This is my umpteenth reread, and I still find myself drawn in. (edited) 3y
Vansa Loving this read along!Their conversations are so interesting- I love how Harkness has used to tropes of a vampire romance to explore history, genetics, evolution, and how folklore evolved.I love the explanation they discuss for the sunlight myth and the invitation myths. Also manages to be quite romantic!I felt Harkness wanted to stick with the tropes of Twilight but use them intelligently, this is one of the chapters where she starts to succeed. 3y
alisiakae This is a great chapter! I love that this chapter starts to chip away at Matthew‘s back story. And the dinner is such a sweet scene, although I wouldn‘t be eating raw venison either, no matter how thinly it is sliced! I was imagining something like beef tartare, but with venison. I have lots of thoughts on how she incorporates ideas of evolution and genetic mutation, but I‘ll save those for later in the book! 3y
MoonWitch94 @4thhouseontheleft @Vansa @Lynnsoprano @catebutler @ElizaMarie @Andrew65 @peanutnine @Laughterhp @Librarybelle I agree with all the things you mentioned. I feel like the author collected all kinds of vampire folklore & elevated them in a believable, educational way. It‘s fun & refreshing. Vampire lore can be repetitive so this is a nice change. 3y
Andrew65 @MoonWitch94 Yes quite a refreshing outlook. 3y
katy4peas I like both of the characters and really enjoyed that they are starting to trust each other. 3y
