This is definitely my favorite fiction book by Adichie. Focus is on Nigerian family, their interpersonal relationship, their view on the world (which is deeply marked by Catholicism) and society‘s view on them, with the backdrop in turbulent times in Nigerian history. Atmospheric story, with many themes, in the core very brutal content, but written in matter of fact style, without preachiness and overly sentimental prose. #AuthorAMonth

Tanisha_A I was so sad and angry, while and after reading this. What a book! 4y
BarbaraBB Good to know, I have it on my shelves. 4y

Simona @Tanisha_A What I liked/admire almost the most in this novel is her ability to portray the horror behind the unspoken/written. This novel is very good example for ‘show, don‘t tell‘. 4y
Simona @BarbaraBB I think that this is hers the most honest and raw book, definitely worth the time. 4y

I really don‘t think I can do this book justice in a review...original, haunting, confounding, lyrical, harsh, and beautiful. I‘m unsure if I should think of this as first-person narrative of a person with multiple personalities or magical realism with Nigerian mythological spirits, but it‘s amazing to think this is based on the author‘s experiences. Totally unique, and completely captivating.

This was GOOD. Beautifully written, honest, real. For characters I have very little in common with, the author does such a good job of letting us see things through their eyes. #readingwomenchallenge #authorfromnigeria
