pickOof, there is a LOT going on here. Almost too much - I felt like the final couple of plot twists were a couple too many, but that might say more about my lack of imagination. It's beautifully written, and I found myself very invested in the characters.

bailedI bailed on this one. I just couldn‘t continue. I was too bored and the chapters were way too long and I just couldn‘t finish it. Sorry anyone who might have liked it. 😔 It just wasn‘t for me.
Aliette de Bodard is one of those authors I really, really want to love, but I‘ve never clicked with her longer work. (I‘ve enjoyed some of her short fiction.) Going by this book‘s opening, I think maybe her prose is precise in a way that shuts me out of the story‘s emotional side. Hopefully the rest of the thing‘ll win me over and change my mind.
Also, you‘ll appreciate why I had to buy and immediately assemble this diorama kit. #audiocrafting
