⭐️⭐️⭐️For the last 6 years I‘ve read a presidential biography every January. The American Presidents series takes presidential biographies and pares them down for the non-historian reader, so this was significantly shorter & less primary document based than what I usually read, which has both pros & cons. That said, it was interesting to learn about this president that is known for being an amazing Statesman&Congressman but not a strong president.

This is a good biography profiling the Admas family - from Presidents John Adams and John Quincy Adams to historians Henry Admas and Brooks Adams. It's a bit repetitive and wordy at times, but worth a read for those that like biographies. Truly a gifted, patriotic family.

Unless you absolutely loved the first animated movie, DO NOT SEE THIS. Ugh. I thought movie one was a disappointment, this one was a disgrace!!

Such a bad b-day gift to give my dad (but he wanted to see it).

ChaoticMissAdventures Oh no!! My ex was big on animation and I remember liking the first, it was super cute. So sad when the second completely bombs. 2y

Happy 4th of July! After being inspired by the Hamilton musical and reading Chernow‘s Hamilton and Washington I moved on to Adams. While John Adams biography wasn‘t quite as exciting as the other founding fathers‘ biographies I did appreciate his contributions to US history and enjoyed reading about his relationship with Abigail. At some point I‘d love to visit the Adams National Historic Park in Quincy, MA.

John Adams, second US President, was concerned for his son, John Quincy Adams (future sixth US President), as JQ was negotiating the treaty to end the War of 1812 with Britain:

“‘The people of the United States are the most conceited people that ever existed on this globe,‘ he remarked in 1816, ‘the most proud, vain, ambitious, suspicious, jealous... and I am as guilty as any of them. Have a care of them!‘”

“But Adams didn‘t just read books. He battled them. The casual presumption that there‘s some kind of rough correlation between the books in the library of any prominent historical figure & the person‘s cast of mind would encounter catastrophe with Adams, because he tended to buy & read books with which he profoundly disagreed. Then, as he read, he recorded in the margins & at the bottom of the pages his usually hostile opinions of...the authors.”
