The inseparable Byker Chapter: six boys, one girl, growing up together in the back streets of Newcastle. Now memories are all that Richard Eden has left, and one treasured photograph. But suddenly, inexplicably, the images of his friends start to fade, and as they vanish, so his friends are found dead and mutilated. Something is stalking the Chapter, picking them off one by one, something connected with their past, and with the girl they used to know.

Mehso-so

I really love Stephen Laws' horror novels, but I'd rate this one as the weakest in his bibliography. The plot is kind of a paranormal "10 Little Indians", littered with clichés and told very straightforward and predictable.

What makes it still enjoyable is the creepy atmosphere that made my hairs stand for attention on many occasions, and the effective use of ancient #horror tropes and a pinch of gore. Like one of these old Hammer movies.

Dear Mr. Laws, I beg you to never stop writing stories that make me feel uneasy on empty, dark train stations 😘

Horrortorte @MrBook I'm afraid I'll never enter a train station by day or night once I've reread his debut novel 9y
MrBook Too bad @Litsy doesn't have a FaceTime or Periscope feature. Then you could have a bunch of us with you on the platform 😉👍🏻. 9y

Waiting for my underground train to work, expecting to see one of the book's monsters creeping around the corner every moment now...

MrBook 😂👏🏻👍🏻 I love it when books have that effect. 9y
Horrortorte @MrBook Well, early in the morning, still half asleep, it's a pretty effective "stage" for stories like these... ? 9y
MrBook Indubitably! 9y
