The Edinburgh Fringe Survival Guide
The Edinburgh Fringe Survival Guide: How to Make Your Show A Success | Mark Fisher
4 posts
'Ah! The Fringe! I can't think of a more delightful way of putting my liver, bank account, relationship, complexion, and mental stability under the greatest strain they've ever known!' Mel Giedroyc It is the world's largest arts festival, attracting everyone from student first-timers to Hollywood stars. Thrilling, inspiring and bewildering in equal measure, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe can make you a star or break your bank. So what is the secret of making it work for you? The Edinburgh Fringe Survival Guide draws on the experiences of the festival's leading figures - their disasters as well as their triumphs - to take you step by step through the process of making your show a success in the Scottish capital. From choosing a venue to keeping on top of the budget, from sorting out accommodation to securing the best press coverage, from generating word of mouth to making the most of a hit, this unique practical guide for performers, directors and producers helps you get your show the audience it deserves. Among those sharing their expert advice are playwright Simon Stephens, comedian Phil Nichol, actor Siobhan Redmond, producer Guy Masterson, Tiger Lillies front manMartyn Jacques, theatre critic Lyn Gardner, Foster's Edinburgh Comedy Award director Nica Burns, as well as the directors of all the major Fringe venues, top press officers, international promoters and insiders from the Fringe Society itself. The foreword is written by playwright Mark Ravenhill.

scripturient @TaylorMay I promise we'll post lots. You'll probably get sick of seeing our posts. 😂 But yes, the book festival is amazing. It's been a few years since I last went and I'm really looking forward to meeting some of my author heroes. 😊 7y
TaylorMay I went a few years ago when I was living there for a summer. I got to see Neil Gaiman and Margaret Atwood in a panel 😍 and I totally won't get sick of them! I love seeing Edinburgh. I follow like 6 city photographers. I can't wait to go back 7y
scripturient @TaylorMay I think we might have been there at the same time then! Was that 2013? I only saw Gaiman alone but I think there was an event with Atwood that I missed. :) 7y
TaylorMay Yup 2013. How cool! Hopefully there can be another meet up when I go back 😉 Edinburgh is such an amazing city for book lovers 7y
scripturient @TaylorMay Haha, we probably walked past each other at some point. Small world. :) Edinburgh is lovely. If you happen to go back next year, let me know. We'll be in Fife for two weeks in August and it's only about an hour into the city. :) 7y
TaylorMay Sounds like a plan. I'm planning on getting over there ASAP 7y

Anyone at Edinburgh International Bookfestival, Edinburgh International Festival or Fringe Festival this August?? @scripturient and I will be there, probably live-tweeting thw whole thing at #edbookfest 😎🍻

LeahBergen So jealous! 💚 7y
scripturient Yay! Anybody wanting to meet up - drop us a line. 😁 7y
Moray_Reads @scripturient I have a few book festival events, mostly at the weekends since I have to fit it around work (boo!), Ali Smith, Sarah Moss, Olivia Sudjic, David Grossman, David Olusoga, the ladies from Nasty Women and Nicole Krauss but I can meetup around them if we don't have any crossover 7y
scripturient @Moray_Reads Sounds like a great itinerary. I have tickets for Zadie Smith, Chris Ridell, Joe Hill, T. Chevalier and Colson Whitehead. We're also seeing Seanmhair at Bedlam theatre on the 21st. But yeah, maybe we can meet up for a drink sometime in-between. 😁 7y
