Wine Witch on Fire
Wine Witch on Fire: Rising from the Ashes of Divorce, Defamation, and Drinking Too Much | Natalie MacLean
3 posts | 3 read | 1 to read
A powerful memoir of how one woman resurrects her life and career in the glamorous but sexist wine industry. Natalie MacLean, a bestselling wine writer, is shocked when her husband of twenty years, a high-powered CEO, demands a divorce. Then an online mob of rivals comes for her career. Wavering between despair and determination, she must fight for her son, rebuild her career, and salvage her self-worth using her superpowers: heart, humour, and an uncanny ability to pair wine and food. Natalie questions her insider role in the slick marketing that encourages women to drink too much while she battles the wine worlds veiled misogyny. Facing the worst vintage of her life, she reconnects with the vineyards that once brought her joy, the friends who sustain her, and her own belief in second chances. This true coming-of-middle-age story is about transforming your life and finding love along the way.

The author invited me to be a beta reader about a year ago. I was very much enjoying this book and wad about 70% in when my computer crashed. This was quickly followed by some life-altering events which kept me from getting back to the book. I was so grateful to be able to read and advance copy through net gallery this spring and finally finish the book. It was definitely worth the wait and is an excellent story of (cont in comments)...

TheHeartlandBookFairy personal perseverance, overcoming adversity, survival, & triumph. Filled with fun facts, fantastic quotes, wonderful wine recommendations,
tons of puns, And many recollections. Some will make you laugh at loud, some are truly cringeworthy, and some will make you want to scream in frustration for Natalie. Natalie shows us another side of the wine world that's often thought of as only glamorous and romantic. Honest, touching, emotional, humorous... Richly layered with plenty of depth and dimension, sit down, get comfy, and enjoy this with your favorite glass of wine 🍷 Also, Check out Natalie's. Other books… I've read and re-read, listened, and am relistening to them!

Raw and riveting, this takes you on a journey across the gamut of human emotion. You'll feel like you're talking to MacLean over a glass of wine as she shares her story of losing it all, only to rise from the ashes wiser and stronger. Anyone who's run into the “good old boys club“ will find the story relatable. I'm coming away from the story with new perspectives on how to tackle some of life's big lessons. This will be a book you can't put down!

I thoroughly enjoyed this memoir about a female wine reviewer who runs into the 'old boy network' and survives to tell her tale. She also is very open about her failed marriage, love life and raising a son. It brought forth a series of emotions as I read it, including laughter, tears and anger. It was a wonderfully entertaining read as well as an eye opener. This is a book for memoir fans, wine aficionados, and those who read books on gender. 4.5
