In this lovely Australian novel, 16yr old Stephanie has been dragged from Sydney to remote Maatsuyker Island off the Tasmanian coast for a six month stint recording weather conditions, including lots of rain & storms. After the death of her twin brother, the family hope that the isolation will help to bring them back together as a family. Beautiful story told well.

This is a real position they advertise each year.

It's about a family coming to terms with the death of their son by upping their life & committing to a year as weather keepers on a remote lighthouse island in the Southern Ocean. Beautiful, very evocative. Made me want to live there as well, I much prefer stormy seas.

Makes me want to go man a lighthouse in tassie, the descriptions of the island, the smell of salt & teatree is fantastic. I'm a solitary person myself, mostly. I think I could happily spend six months on an island,just me,the hubby & a few books. Well,a few hundred maybe.The only criticism of this is it didn't end the way I wanted it to.
