This wasn't my favorite Margolin thriller, but it was still a solid read. Ami is a struggling single-mom attorney who rents her over-the-garage apartment for extra income. Her current boarder seems friendly and kind, but during a Little League game he loses control and almost kills two men with his bare hands. Ami finds herself sucked into the situation more and more as the man tells her a story that sounds unbelievable, of a special secret ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) group of government special operatives working under the radar, combined with evil misdeeds and directions from a powerful man now running for president. Is Carl's story legitimate? That's the crux of the story, and honestly, Margolin had me going until the very end as he does a fabulous job of presenting information from Carl and Vanessa (another character who believes Carl's story) that had me convinced that the General was the evil ⬇ 2y

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) mastermind they claimed, followed by a situation where the General gives perfectly reasonable explanations for everything they're saying, making me doubt them once again. The actual action of the story isn't very fast-paced, especially compared to other Margolin stories that I've read, and some parts felt repetitive as we would hear the same story from both Carl and Vanessa's perspective. There is also a big courtroom scene that recaps ⬇ 2y

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) everything and consequently felt a little bogged down. But on the whole, this was an engaging story that genuinely did have me going back and forth about the veracity of Carl's claims.

First full week back at the orchard and my #BookReport for this week reflects it 😂 I finished the final Bridgerton book - fun and fluffy, like the whole series - and bailed on two different books. A Lesson Vengeance just wasn't vibing for me, and Ocean of Storms was sooo boring. I'm going to skim ahead and find out what was on the moon, though! Currently better than halfway through the tagged book, which is okay but much more slowly paced than ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) other books by this author that I've read in the past. Hoping to finish that one today and maybe start another. I have a bridal shower to attend, so I'm not sure how much of my day will be spent there!!

Tomorrow's windowsill pic will include all of August's books... there may be a space problem!! 😂
