Mehso-so

The tagged book is listed with a different author so... not sure if they are supposed to be the same. Can there really be two books with this same random title?! 😂

Quite a while back I bought an entire box of Regency romances on ebay for quite cheap, mostly because it included several Georgette Heyer books that I didn't own yet. I've slowly been working my way through the other books, which have been pretty much uniformly terrible LOL ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) This one honestly didn't start too badly. Athena's parents have died recently, so she and her brother, Ares, are off to Greece to scatter the parents' ashes someplace or other that was meaningful to them. They end up hiring this other guy to be their guide as Greece is currently ruled by the Turks/Ottoman Empire and this guy is familiar with the culture and language. Of course there's a disaster and the dude (who Strongly Disapproves of ⬇ 2y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) of Women, Especially Sassy Ones Who Travel) and Athena have to travel together incognito. While completely eye-rolly it honestly wasn't too terrible of a set up for them to be stuck together and to fall in love. But then, in the last 30 pages, the entire book went off the rails. This whole time they weren't even sure if Ares was alive. When they get to Athens, he's there and instead of it being like “Oh wow, this is crazy, we're all ⬇ 2y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) alive and safe, let's catch up on our stories!“ Ares immediately starts accusing the dude of kidnapping Athena yadda yadda. Then Ares proceeds to lie to both of them about the other's indifference to keep them apart... for no reason that made any sense, especially since in the beginning of the book, Ares and Athena are presented as really close, loving siblings. When Athena finds out her brother has been lying she literally THREATENS TO ⬇ 2y

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) SHOOT HIM IN THE SHOULDER if he doesn't approve of their marriage. ?!?!?!?! It just... the ending of the book literally all three main characters acted like completely different people just to make Drama, and it was very annoying. So yeah, this one honestly didn't start too badly, but that ending. Why.

Yuki_Onna What a perfect colour match!👏 Again! 🤩 2y
Clare-Dragonfly The parents named their children Athena and Ares?! It could be worse but… I think they need some remedial Greek mythology lessons. 2y
TheAromaofBooks @Yuki_Onna - Honestly, I was unreasonably excited about how well it matched 😂 2y
TheAromaofBooks @Clare-Dragonfly - Right?! And they basically just “explained“ it by saying their parents... loved Greek mythology?! 2y

#BookReport - This always happens when I'm doing a bunch of chapter-a-day reads... my windowsill reading slows down a lot!! I did finish the next installment of the Lunar Chronicles as well as read several short stories from Stars Above, in the order I found recommended online. I also got distracted when I was making my graphic and forgot to check off Kids of Appetite 😂 I'm enjoying all of my daily reads except for Gone With the Wind because ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) Scarlet is SUCH a brat. (Side note: What are the odds of me reading TWO books with MCs named Scarlet in the same week??) Lady Susan is a delight, Treasure Island is great fun, I'm finding The Tenant of Wildfell Hall surprisingly engaging, As You Wish is just perfection, and I'm even getting into WWI on the eastern front! The Worsley buddy read starts today, so we'll see how that one goes, but I literally know nothing about Jane Austen, ⬇ 2y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) so I'm excited to see where this one goes. This week I have a few books that are due at the library so I'm going to have to prioritize them... but that's a post for tomorrow's #weeklyforecast 😁 @Cinfhen 2y
Cinfhen Haha 😂 looking forward to tomorrow‘s #WeeklyForecast - impressed you‘re still sticking it out with Scarlett!!! It‘s SUCH A LONG book 😳BTW: the audio for this book was FABULOUS 👉🏽in case you feel like listening 👂🏼 2y
TheAromaofBooks @Cinfhen - I know, the Civil War is over and I'm only halfway! It's really horrifying to read how terribly people were treated before, during, and after the war - so amazing in a terrible way to see how easily people mistreat those weaker than they are, no matter who is on “top“... anyway, the audio version of As You Wish does sound amazing!! I'm never any good at listening to audio books, but this might be a fun one for our upcoming vacation!! 2y
