There were so many enticing and unfamiliar comics and graphic novels in this shop, but I don't think my Italian is good enough yet to be able to read them 😅

I wanted to pick up an Italian copy of Saga, but they didn't have No. 1 ☹

vivastory I would have grabbed the Elliott Smith 💙 2y
Branwen What gorgeous covers! 😍 2y
RaeLovesToRead @Branwen I was so tempted... and yet, my Italian proficiency is not yet passable! Although I am now pretty good at acquiring food! 2y

Branwen @RaeLovesToRead That's the most important thing of all! 😋 2y
RaeLovesToRead @Branwen Also important is getting the right coffee - basically Cappuccino is a Latte, Macchiato is basically espresso and Latte is a glass of milk 🤣🤣 2y
The_Penniless_Author There's an Italian graphic novel about Elliott Smith?!! 2y
RaeLovesToRead @vivastory @The_Penniless_Author I don't know if it will be translated, but apparently it's a recent release. I'm not familiar with his work - should I have a listen? 2y
The_Penniless_Author I think you should. He's pretty great. He has some beautiful songs, but they can be very dour. He struggled with severe depression and substance abuse his whole life, and it comes out in his music. Even the ones with cheery melodies seem to have a melancholic undertone. I think part of it's his singing voice, not exactly a whisper but still fragile, kind of wispy. Listen to 'Needle in the Hay' and you'll see what I mean. 2y
vivastory I highly recommend Smith. He is one of the greatest lyricists in recent memory IMO. Either/Or & XO are basically flawless. I have now had the unbelievable honor to have seen several musicians who have passed away: Among these are Taylor Hawkins of Foo Fighters, Mark Sandman of Morphine & Eliiott Smith. It is Smith's loss that I feel most keenly I was in a venue in Lawrence, KS to see a band just a few weeks after Smith's death & after the (edited) 2y
vivastory show was over they started playing his most recent release over the sound system. I am not exaggerating in the least when I say that the entire venue went silent & quite a few attendees were crying. It was especially poignant as this happened in the venue that I saw Smith perform in. (edited) 2y
RaeLovesToRead @The_Penniless_Author @vivastory Thank you both, I will have a listen. It's heartbreaking that he died so young and in such a horrific way 💔 I'm glad you got to see him perform, Scott. 2y
