Go Gently
Go Gently: Actionable Steps to Nurture Yourself and the Planet | Bonnie Wright
5 posts | 3 read | 3 to read
An inspiring and approachable tip-filled guide to changing your habits, living more sustainably, and taking action, by Greenpeace ambassador Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley in the Harry Potter movies) Go Gently is a guide for sustainability at home that offers simple, tangible steps toward reducing our environmental impact by looking at what we consume and the waste we create, as well as how to take action for environmental change. The title reflects Bonnie Wright's belief that the best way to change our planet and ourselves is through a gentle approach, rather than a judgmental one. This is a book of do's rather than don'ts. It's also an invitation to Wright's followers to join her on this journey to sustainability. Going through every room in her home, Wright helps us assess which products are sustainable, and alternatives for those that are not. She shares recipes to avoid waste, homemade self-care products to avoid packaging, small space-friendly gardening ideas, and a template for creating your own compost system. Finally, to sustain yourself, there are exercises and meditation prompts to keep you energized, plus info on how to get involved in community and organizations.

4/5⭐ Perfect for those who are, like I am, overwhelmed by the magnitude of the climate crisis.

This book has many sections devoted to different stages of involvement in combatting the climate crisis. I liked the recipes (both kitchen and personal-care) best, and was less interested in the activism part. I found those ideas fairly generic and not particularly “actionable.” The profiles of people working for the climate were interesting, but at three questions each (2/3 were the same for everyone) it wasn‘t much. Considering buying a copy.

Thanks for the tag @MoonWitch94 #thoughtfulThursday
I‘m reading a physical book from the library.
At this point, about four stars. Bouncing between three and four, depending on the section.
Depends on my purpose. Never highlight, but underline or notes in margins and sticky notes when it‘s for a buddy read or academics (lit major).
Tagging @julesG @kspenmoll @Ruthiella (sorry if you‘ve done it already, I‘m late to the game today)

MoonWitch94 Thanks for playing 📚☺️ 2y

Starting this one today. I dislike pseudo-words like “actionable” but I‘m trying to overlook it because I find the premise appealing.

Ruthiella How do you feel about “impactful”? That one drives me nuts! 😆 But language does change with time and usage. 2y
ravenlee @Ruthiella ugh 🤨. What gets me the most is words like “gifted” when we already have a perfectly serviceable word. What was wrong with “given?” 2y

#DannyBoy inspecting today‘s library #BookHaul - for myself, for a change! Very different books but they both look interesting. Naturally, I put these on hold AFTER I made up my #BookSpin list…
