_____________________ Welcome to the Winter Garden. Open only at 13 o'clock. You are invited to enter an unusual competition. I am looking for the most magical, spectacular, remarkable pleasure garden this world has to offer. On the night her mother dies, 8-year-old Beatrice receives an invitation to the mysterious Winter Garden. A place of wonder and magic, filled with all manner of strange and spectacular flora and fauna, the garden is her solace every night for seven days. But when the garden disappears, and no one believes her story, Beatrice is left to wonder if it were truly real. Eighteen years later, on the eve of her wedding to a man her late father approved of but she does not love, Beatrice makes the decision to throw off the expectations of Victorian English society and search for the garden. But when both she and her closest friend, Rosa, receive invitations to compete to create spectacular pleasure gardens - with the prize being one wish from the last of the Winter Garden's magic - she realises she may be closer to finding it than she ever imagined. Now all she has to do is win.

Welcome to the Winter Gardens of Half Moon House. Please do not mishandle the exhibits. (The owners accept no liability for any events that occur, magical or otherwise…)

The Winter Garden open at the stroke of midnight with no great fanfare – after all, this is a time when all virtuous folk should be in bed.

Totally multitasking tonight. Watching Monday night football on TV, watching the Iowa caucuses on my iPad, and reading my book club book. #ButtInChairEyesOnBook #Cozy

#NovelNovember Readathon

I‘m keeping my goal low as I‘m flying to the west coast on Saturday to visit a friend for the week. Luckily, I have two 6-hour flights to read!

My main goal is to finish my #LMPBC pick (tagged). I also have plans to stop at some bookstores in San Diego and LA, so we‘ll see what else I can find to read. 😉

Andrew65 Great to have you with us, and have a great time on the West Coast. 5mo

‘You know, of course, that spinsterhood is an unnatural state‘ the doctor said, rather sternly. ‘It is well know to us in the medical profession for causing all kinds of health problems in women, from uterine disorders and selfish tendencies, to brain fever and hysterical outbursts. It sounds to me as if you are simply suffering from a feminine case of the vapours‘

Loved this novel , pure winter escapism . Who wouldn‘t want to be given a chance to make one wish to put something right , or so we think , to change some part of the past , but at what consequence to our future and the future of the people around us . A mixture of historical fantasy , a magical story of friendships , unspoken longing , broken marriages, regrets and of course magical gardens . Highly recommended
