Grace and her friends must protect a newly hatched dragon from mysterious evildoers. When Grace moves to Hong Kong with her mom and new stepdad, her biggest concern is making friends at her fancy new boarding school. But when a mysterious old woman gifts her a dragon egg during a field trip, Grace discovers that the wonderful stories of dragons she heard when she was a young girl might actually be real--especially when the egg hatches overnight. The dragon has immense powers that Grace has yet to understand. And that puts them both in danger from mysterious forces intent on abusing the dragon's power. And now it's up to Grace and her school friends to uncover the sinister plot threatening the entire city!

A 9 year old named Violet came into the bookstore to celebrate her birthday and, when she saw my dragon t-shirt, recommended me this middle grades graphic novel about a young Chinese-American girl who‘s gifted a dragon egg! While I didn‘t love the representation of scientists or the emphasis on blood, I was blown away by the action, plot twists, stunning art, and lovable characters—Nate the dragon enthusiastically included!

Ruthiella What a cute story! Recommendations from a 9 year old. 😃 1mo

This middle grade comic is pretty cute! What it has to offer: Chinese-American mc, cute art style, diverse cast, dragons, Chinese mythology, Chinese setting, and adventure. What‘s not so great: whenever the characters need to know something, they basically just google it (even preposterous things) or someone conveniently just read about it, the villain dialogue is not good at all, and it portrays science as inherently evil.

I loved this graphic novel! I want a movie 😻 great art, gripping story, fascinating premise. And it takes a while to read, for a kids graphic novel, which was fun too. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Overall, this was a highly amusing graphic novel. It‘s aimed at middle grade readers, but can be enjoyed by people of all ages. If you‘re a fan of dragons or Chinese mythology, be sure to check this one out!
