Chill Tidings: Dark Tales of the Christmas Season | Tanya Kirk
5 posts | 5 read | 8 to read
The gifts are unwrapped, the feast has been consumed and the fire is well fed - but the ghosts are still hungry. Welcome to the second new collection of dark Christmas stories in the Tales of the Weird series, ushering in a fresh host of nightmarish phantoms and otherworldly intruders bent on joining or ruining the most wonderful time of the year. Featuring classic tales from Algernon Blackwood, Rosemary Timperley, Sheridan Le Fanu and Elinor Glyn alongside rare pieces from the sleeping periodicals and literary magazines of the Library collection, it's time to open the door and let the real festivities begin.

This is an interesting collection of short stories. There was a short introduction given to each author which I enjoyed, it helped put things into a context.

The stories are from 1868-1955. If you enjoy literature from these periods then you'll enjoy it. I don't really like the writing style over this period, particularly Victorian literature.

Last book for #WinterGames - thank you @Emilymdxn for this book of thirteen ghost stories, I especially enjoyed the last and had forgotten what a sheer joy and pleasure it is to read Jerome K. Jerome #MerryReaders

Unfortunately this was just fine. The stories felt quite samey and it felt like a bit of a slog getting through all of them, I‘d have liked a bit more light and shade in the collection

Well things aren‘t great in the UK right now. Today‘s announcement about the new tiers was a bit of a shock. Luckily I‘m back at my parents‘ already in advance so I haven‘t been trapped in London, but it hasn‘t been the best day ever. Trying to relax this evening but I haven‘t got a lot of reading done this week 😞

ChaoticBabyDoll One of these days things will go back to normal. Try not to let it get you down too much! The book looks interesting! 3y

BarbaraBB @Suet624 It‘s a mutation of the virus that seems even more contagious. Because of it London and the south of England are in lockdown again. I hope vaccination will make and end to this mess soon, @Emilymdxn 🤞🏽😘 3y
Suet624 @BarbaraBB Well that's downright frightening. Please stay safe everyone. And thanks for explaining it. 3y
Megabooks Stay safe, Emily. Sending hugs! 💕💕 3y
Kalalalatja Sending hugs. Denmark had a new mutation a couple of months ago, and got that close to extinct pretty quickly due to a new regional lock down. I hope it is the same for you 🤞 3y
