so-so
#readaroundtheworld #thegambia Written in a straight forward manner, the story starts with the exact same conditions as Do They Hear You When You Cry, the book I read for Togo. Our narrator has lost her father and her uncle decides to marry her off to a rich, older man with three other wives. To please her husband, she must under go female genital excision. The devastation of realizing this is a “common” story overrode the actual book.
Currey @sprainedbrain @rockpools @BookishTrish @Simona @BookwormM I did learn a great deal about The Gambia however. The country is completely surrounded by Senegal, it is largely Muslim, the majority of the population is under the age of 30 and they put peanuts in everything as it is their main crop for both domestic use and export 4y
BookwormM Good that it taught you a lot bad you didn‘t enjoy it 4y
