A double homicide and a missing woman lead a detective to unearth disturbing secrets in this gripping thriller from USA Today bestselling author Debra Webb. It's the worst possible time for Detective Kerri Devlin to be involved in an all-consuming double-homicide case. She's locked in a bitter struggle with her ex-husband and teenage daughter, and her reckless new partner is anything but trustworthy. Still, she has a job to do: there's a killer at large, and a pregnant woman has gone missing. Once Devlin and her partner get to work, they quickly unearth secrets involving Birmingham's most esteemed citizens. Each new layer of the investigation brings Devlin closer to the killer and the missing woman, who starts looking more like a suspect than a victim. But just as answers come into view, the case twists, expands, and slithers into Devlin's personal life. There's a much more sinister game at work, one she doesn't even know she's playing--and she must unravel the truth once and for all to stop the killer before she loses everything.

Takara, Thank you so much for my #bestof2021 gifts! I‘m in love with the blanket, so soft and cozy. The candle smells yummy and I love pens and notebooks/journals so I‘m thrilled you included some. I‘ve not read Debra Webb so excited to try a new author. I‘ve read Ove but think I‘m due for a reread. Thank you for your kindness! Thanks for hosting, Brooke!

candority Ove is one of the few books that I would re-read! Such a good one 😊 2y

Wow, what a ride!! This is the beginning of a police procedural series. New partners Devlin and Falco are Birmingham, AL (2 hrs. from me!) detectives who are investigating a double homicide with links to a 15 year-old disappearance involving the rich and powerful of the city. There‘s revenge, villains and twists aplenty. Reminded me a bit of Gone Girl.
Really enjoyed and looking forward to more from this author. 4.5/5⭐️

Cpg Interesting- I‘ll have to check this out as well...I live just south of Birmingham 🇺🇸(suburb) and my in laws had a downtown Bham business for years. 😍 4y
robinb @Cpg I‘m in a suburb of Huntsville and had no idea this was set in Birmingham until I opened the book. It was a nice surprise! 😊 4y
Cpg @robinb I grew up in Scottsboro in North Alabama. We have a common thread!!! I‘m going to look for the book you said was set in Bham. Interesting! There was an author that wrote many novels based in Bham- can‘t think of her name- but I enjoyed her books as well. And Fannie Flagg also writes about Bham area too. 4y

robinb @Cpg Yes, I know Scottsboro...I actually took my son there to get his driver‘s license! 😂 The wait time is outrageous in Huntsville. Another author I really like is Lauren K. Denton. She was born in Mobile but now lives outside Birmingham, and her stories (the ones I‘ve read) are set in Alabama. 4y
Cpg Oh that‘s interesting!!! Did you go to Unclaimed Baggage on your Sboro trip? Had to ask! 😂 I‘ll look for that author as well. 4y
robinb @Cpg No, but I know exactly where it is! 👍😉😂 I hope you‘ll enjoy Denton! My favorites so far are The Summer House and this one. 4y
