Blood Rose Rebellion
Blood Rose Rebellion | Rosalyn Eves
The thrilling first book in a YA fantasy trilogy for fans of "Red Queen." In a world where social prestige derives from a trifecta of blood, money, and magic, one girl has the ability to break the spell that holds the social order in place. Sixteen-year-old Anna Arden is barred from society by a defect of blood. Though her family is part of the Luminate, powerful users of magic, she is Barren, unable to perform the simplest spells. Anna would do anything to belong. But her fate takes another course when, after inadvertently breaking her sister s debutante spell an important chance for a highborn young woman to show her prowess with magic Anna finds herself exiled to her family s once powerful but now crumbling native Hungary. Her life might well be over. In Hungary, Anna discovers that nothing is quite as it seems. Not the people around her, from her aloof cousin Noemi to the fierce and handsome gypsy Gabor. Not the society she s known all her life, for discontent with the Luminate is sweeping the land. And not her lack of magic. Isolated from the only world she cares about, Anna still can t seem to stop herself from breaking spells. As rebellion spreads across the region, Anna s unique ability becomes the catalyst everyone is seeking. In the company of nobles, revolutionaries, and gypsies, Anna must choose: deny her unique power and cling to the life she s always wanted, or embrace her ability and change that world forever."

Okay, a little late. However, I did finish two books I was trying to finish. The tagged and Blue Lock, which sadly was the only #LetsGetGraphic I read. I did start Tick Tock, but physically reading was a challenge while I was getting my house back with long overdue cleaning. So audiobooks and Serial Reads were all I had the ability to do. Overall, I‘d call it successful! 🥰 @Andrew65 @Clwojick

4✨read/audio listened really fast for this so I know I missed quite a bit. There is elements of historical fact as well as real people that the characters were based upon. Obviously, this is a work of fiction with magic, creatures, and non-human characters. Anna has no magic, but somehow she broke a spell her sister was casting. There is love, maybe a bit of scandal, betrayal, and loss. Glossary at the end for phrases. #BookSpin @TheAromaofBooks

I‘m hoping that I will finish the tagged by tomorrow. I would also like to finish Blue Lock, and 3 My Hero Academia Books. I‘d also like to start Tick Tock by Dean Koontz and The Delphi Revolution to try to finish by Monday. Hopefully, July will be a great reading month for me. 🥰 @Andrew65 #20in4

Andrew65 Hope you have a great Readathon, good luck 😁 I‘m hoping my reading picks up in July, June has been a very difficult month to find time for reading, especially over the last 2-3 weeks. 10mo

I truly enjoyed this book. It‘s set in a fantasy Victorian England where people of higher social standing are the only ones that can use magic, but Anna is considered barren of magic and is ostracized for it. After accidentally ruining her sister‘s spells at her official debut into society, Anna is sent away with her grandmother‘s home country Hungary where she meets a beautiful guarded gypsy boy and becomes involved in a revolution.

This book was excellent! Fantasy with some historical accuracies tied in. I was totally behind Anna, the main character, the entire time. Strong female presence.

Oy vey. Talk about an unnecessary and boring romance...
I full on starting SKIPPING CHAPTERS in the last third of the book and was still following the plot! Not skimming pages...SKIPPING CHAPTERS!

The_Heeler_Booklife I didn‘t like this either. I ended up bailing on it. 6y

What a great story. My family is Hungarian so the language and geography is like visiting again. This story perfectly fits the Hungarian spirit. Throw in some magic and a little romance and you get a great read.

I think this book broke the course of my not enjoying historical fantasies! Granted, it wasn't what I expected, but I enjoyed it. Almost more historical fiction than fantasy, it explores the political unrest in Hungary in 1847/1848, but in a world where the longing for freedom and equality also includes the right to use magic regardless of class.

It is pretty political, with a touch of romance as well.

I just finished reading Blood Rose Rebellion and was pleasantly surprised. I love the concept, range of magic and the over all plot. I did at times find it very political which in the end was necessary. I also love all the old world lore and use of gypsies. Very enjoyable read, looking forward to book two.

DNF @52% (pg. 217). The cover is gorgeous, but the book is terrible. A reputation possibly by a kiss? Then, the book went on a very different direction. The pacing was slow as well as boring writing. #dnf #boring #dontreccomend

lil_birdie_reads_83 I had this on my tbr, but I think I may skip it now. 7y
The_Heeler_Booklife @lilhummingbird_83 I had it on my TBR list prior to it coming out and when it came out, I decided to buy it despite the bad reviews on Goodreads. If you do ever read it, I suggest borrowing it instead of buying it. 7y
lil_birdie_reads_83 @allthingskayla I think I'll pass on reading it all together... there are too many books that have better reviews that I want to get to. Thanks for the suggestion, though. 😊 7y
The_Heeler_Booklife @lilhummingbird_83 no problem. I agree, there are many more books out there with better reviews and better books to not waste your time on. Like they say: so many books, so little time. 7y

I've been trying to read more lately and it just hasn't worked at all. I'm currently struggling through this one right now. I feel like it's moving really slowly 😞

Megabooks Bail? At least for now... 7y
The_Heeler_Booklife I had to bail because for the past two months I have been moving slowly with reading or I started to read other books instead of this one. The writing is awfully boring. Glad to see I'm not alone with reading it slowly. 7y

I wanted to love it. It was practically tailor made for my interests. Alas...I had to throw in the towel a hundred pages from the end. This book suffered from a few issues (the biggest for me being the use of a derogatory term for Romani Travellers). Ultimately it seemed as though the book couldn't decide if it wanted to be fantasy or a tale of historical revolution.

Guiltyascyn Gross at the use of the slur. I can't remember what book I was reading, but the setting and culture was completely made up and they STILL used that word. I was so mad. 7y
CatLadyBibliophile @Guiltyascyn It was really disappointing. I tried to give it a few pages but it carried through the whole book. It was so excessive. 7y

Packing up my carry on for the airport tonight. I'm sure I'll pick up at least one more book at the gate, but I think this will be a nice mix of whatever my mind might want. 💜🎄 Ready to be away from everything for a while.

Edit: It's worth noting that my flight is just over four hours. This is excessive and I may have a problem.

I wish Litsy let you post video so you could hear my reaction as I opened this ARC box! You pull apart the roses to reveal the book, it was beautiful and really made me pause and see what the excitement was all about. #BloodRoseRebellion is set in a magical world where the lead character doesn't have magic, but she can undo it. Can't wait to start reading this one!

A hero for the new millennium, Anna Arden is a perfectly fleshed, palpably believable girl struggling with the unimaginable. This is world where the magical systems are surprisingly new and yet achingly familiar. Might be my favorite book of 2017, definitely awaiting the next installment eagerly.
