Mazes of Power
Mazes of Power | Juliette Wade
3 posts | 1 read | 6 to read
This debut work of sociological science fiction follows a deadly battle for succession, where brother is pitted against brother in a singular chance to win power and influence for their family. The cavern city of Pelismara has stood for a thousand years. The Great Families of the nobility cling to the myths of their golden age while the city's technology wanes. When a fever strikes, and the Eminence dies, seventeen-year-old Tagaret is pushed to represent his Family in the competition for Heir to the Throne. To win would give him the power to rescue his mother from his abusive father, and marry the girl he loves. But the struggle for power distorts everything in this highly stratified society, and the fever is still loose among the inbred, susceptible nobles. Tagaret's sociopathic younger brother, Nekantor, is obsessed with their family's success. Nekantor is willing to exploit Tagaret, his mother, and her new servant Aloran to defeat their opponents. Can he be stopped? Should he be stopped? And will they recognize themselves after the struggle has changed them?

Well, I was going to start this book because it‘s due back at the library next week...

BUT it‘s a fantasy about a fever that hits the nobles and throws the power structure into chaos... So it‘s a little too on the nose and may go back to the library unread...

However, I will keep it on my TBR for later in the year.

I may be on the mend, but walking from the house, to the car, having my husband drive me to the library and then the walk to the car to the library, back to the car, exhausted me. 😂🥱😴 (I hate being sick and I‘ve been more sick this winter than not sick)

Here‘s my #libraryhaul #bookstack - Planning to dive into these while my husband is out with his family for this birthday. I was supposed to host but 🤧😷🤒

#24B4Monday - No timer going

Butterfinger I wonder about germs from library books. It's like sharing pencils at school for children. 4y
Butterfinger I hope you get better. 4y
Laughterhp @Butterfinger I wonder sometimes too, but always thought they might help my immune system. I don‘t always borrow books, but I also don‘t socialize a lot either because I work from home. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ 4y

Laughterhp @UnidragonFrag @Yoshi-and-a-book Thanks! I usually only get sick once a year (maybe) and I‘ve been sick January and February. It‘s exhausting! 🤦‍♀️ 4y
Geenie Me too, actually. I've been getting these killer headaches 🤯. @Laughterhp 4y
Laughterhp @Yoshi-and-a-book Ugh, headaches are the worst. I hope you figure out how to stop them! 4y
