Anastasia: The Last Grand Duchess, Russia, 1914 | Carolyn Meyer
5 posts | 38 read | 5 to read
Award-winning author Carolyn Meyer's ANASTASIA is back in print with a gorgeous new package! Thirteen-year-old Anastasia is the youngest daughter of Czar Nicholas II, ruler of Russia. Anastasia is used to a life of luxury; her major concerns are how to get out of her detested schoolwork to play in the snow, go ice-skating, or have picnics. She wears diamonds and rubies, and every morning her mother tells her which matching outfit she and her three sisters shall wear that day. It's a fairy tale life -- until everything changes with the outbreak of war between Russia and Germany. As Russia enters WWI, hunger and poverty grows among the peasants, and soon they are not pleased with their ruler. While the czar is trying win a war and save their country, the country is turning on the royal family. When her father and the rest of the family are imprisoned by the Bolsheviks, suddenly Anastasia understands what this war is costing the people. In the pages of her diary, Anastasia chronicles the wealth and luxury of her royal days, as well as the fall from power, and her uncertain fate.

Pickpick

Touted as a YA HF novel, I think it‘s more MG level, Scholastic book. Told from POV of Anastasia, these are diary entries which detail the story of Czar Nicholas and his family.

TheBookgeekFrau I bought this years ago for my daughter and ended up reading it myself. I loved it! Not sure if my daughter ever got around to reading it though 🤔😂 10mo
Eggs I learned something new: Then-Prince of Wales Edward (pre abdication, pre Wallis) had his eye on Anastasia‘s older sister Olga. I believe they were distant cousins. @TheBookgeekFrau 10mo
TheBookgeekFrau @Eggs The Royal world is a small world 👑😄 10mo
JenDR I read this earlier this year. Found it at a thrift store and thought it would be a good palette cleanser between other books. Really liked it and now am trying to track down the other ones in the series. 10mo
Eggs I didn‘t realize that Meyer had written so MANY books like this! @JenDR 10mo

If anyone is ever getting rid of their hardback copies of these, please send them my way! I was just telling @Laalaleighh about them and how much I LOVED them as a kid and I am so sad I only have 5 of them. They have 36 in the Dear America set, 20 in the Royal Diaries set, and 19 in the Journal set. So basically I have 5 out of 75 lol I hate that they did new covers for them, I like the originals SO much 😍

Bookquilter I had some of these for a while when I thought I was going to have a little girl... I will look to see if they are still in the garage... I can't remember giving them away but I might of in one of my "why hold on to the past " moments... I will let you know 7y
rubyslippersreads I've just started collecting them too. 😄 7y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @Bookquilter omg that would be AMAZING! Thank you for looking! That is exactly why I really want to get them, I think my Daughter will love them. And if I ever have a boy, he may like the journal ones. I truly appreciate you looking for me ❤❤❤ thank you SO much 😘 7y

BooksTeasAndBookishThings @rubyslippersreads I have seen a few on eBay, but they are so expensive in the lots and you never know just how great the quality is for EVERY one in a lot. I am keeping my eye on them, but figured I would try book community first and Library sales and what not. ❤ 7y
TheBookStacker Oh I used to love these books! Donated them to my old elementary school but I had almost all of them! 7y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @TheBookStacker lucky school! I am glad the kids have it. It was a great way to be introduced to history through fiction. ❤ 7y
rubyslippersreads @BooksTeasAndBookishThings I see them at thrift stores sometimes, though I can't find 7y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @rubyslippersreads I definitely saw that one on eBay by itself if you are looking 😊 7y
rubyslippersreads @BooksTeasAndBookishThings Thanks--I'll check it out! 😀 7y
CrowCAH I might have some I can send, but have to check with my sister and Mom to see if they want to keep any. I'll let you know. 7y
kate_reads My FAVORITE books growing up 😍 7y

BooksTeasAndBookishThings @katekrug I remember reading as many as my library had! Any time they got a new one I was SO excited!!! 7y
Leetha_rose My Secret War ❤❤❤👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤❤❤ 7y
lilredhen I passed mine on to my eight year old. Crazy kid reads anything lol, so I figure she might as well read some historical fiction. They slow her down on her pace so she actually reads instead of skimming. 7y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @Leetha_rose I definitely love that one! I think that one, Winter of Red Snow, and I thought My Soul Would Rise and Fly were ones that I re-read the most! 7y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @lilredhen I think it is a great intro to historical fiction for kids for sure ❤ 7y
CrowCAH @BooksTeasAndBookishThings you're gona freak! What say you to adding nine books to the collection?! I'll take a pic and let you see the gems 😁 7y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @CrowCAH EEEEEEKKKK!!! You have NO idea how happy you just made me!!! Omg, if I were not married... 😉 7y
kitty_reads Omg I used to love these growing up!!!! 7y
Librarylady I love this series. I think I own nearly all of them and hope that one of my girls will enjoy them someday. 7y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @Librarylady that is exactly what I am hoping for ❤ 7y
Devyn Oh my gosh, how had I forgotten about these?! They've got to be single-handedly responsible for my history obsession. 7y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @Devyn I swear I had forgotten, too, until I had my Daughter, but even then... it kept slipping my mind until LaLa brought up her obsession with the Romanovs and I remembered the diary of Anastasia ❤ (edited) 7y
brilliantglow I filled out my collection of the royal diaries, I only had Mary queen of Scots bought the rest off Thriftbooks.com all in hardcover and like new condition. Most of them were about 3.50 each +2.99 for shipping because I live in Canada. But if you're in the US orders over $10 get free shipping. 7y
Aims42 'My Secret War' was my favorite!!!! Oh gosh, completely forgot about it. I read it all on a 6 hour car ride and had to have my parents stop at a bookstore before we drove back home 😂 7y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @brilliantglow sweet!!! Thank you!!! ❤❤❤ 7y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @Aims42 haha it is definitely one of the great ones 😊 7y

BooksTeasAndBookishThings @JenicaDawn So did I ❤❤❤ I really hope I can collect them all 😊🙌 I think Kaysen will love them when she is older as well! 7y
Shvonne My favorite series as a kid. Probably why I like novels written in letter or diary from. 7y
VeryLazyDaisy Wonderful books! My nephews all got these as gifts from me for years and years in a row. (They probably got tired of it, lol) 7y

Lucylovesreading I mentioned these to someone and said that they were my fav books as a kid and what got me into history and they had NEVER heard of them!! I couldn't believe it! 7y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @Lucylovesreading yeah, I assumed everyone had heard of them, but I guess not every school was lucky enough to have them! We always had the scholastic book fairs as well and that is where I actually bought mine. 7y
pocketmermaid These are SO popular at my library! I wish we had them all. 7y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @pocketmermaid I really hope to get them all for her ❤ 7y
Bookquilter @BooksTeasAndBookishThings I haven't forgot you... I am still in the process of getting through the garage to the boxes 📦...The garage is a little more daunting then I expected...will keep you posted ... I didn't want you to think I had forgot 7y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @Bookquilter no! Truly, take your time, I appreciate you looking at all, believe me. I can totally wait 😊 THANK YOU ❤ 7y
