Being honest, there‘s a couple of duds amongst this collection of essays from Lee. But the vast majority are little nuggets of beauty. At his absolute best when writing about his home village of Slad and the surrounding countryside (areas familiar to me as a resident of Gloucestershire), he also hits the mark in his summaries of the history of the Berkeley family, and his description of the River Severn from source to sea. A joy to read.
