Bailedbailed

I decided to put this one aside, my third bail for May (completely unheard of for me!). The writing was really uneven: there were sections I enjoyed and were easy to read, but then Leavitt would switch abruptly to a different topic or event that was poorly written. Left me confused about where the story was going 🤷🏻‍♀️. Might pick up this or another Leavitt in the future: any recommendations, @CarolynM ?
This was my May #bookspin

TheAromaofBooks Sometimes I have trouble getting into a book where it seems like the author is trying to be to “artsy“ or clever. It doesn't always work for me! 2y
CarolynM I liked this one a lot 2y
sarahbellum @CarolynM thank you! ☺️ 2y

Sigh. 50 pages in and I‘m considering bailing. Some sections are overly pretentious and navel gaze-y. I‘m being reminded of my own teenage anxiety about doing well in school and that, quite frankly, isn‘t very fun to revisit. No one has reviewed this on Litsy, so maybe I should take that as a sign 🤷🏻‍♀️

CarolynM I read it years ago and liked it a lot - I‘m a bit of a David Leavitt fan. I think I know what you mean about the navel gazing, but I‘m ok with it🙂 2y
sarahbellum @CarolynM ooo thanks for sharing! This is my first Leavitt. I‘ll probably give it another chapter before I decide 2y
