Another day, another Drawlloween prompt used for a book choice. I‘ve had this one forever and I‘m happy to finally have a reason to start it.

Hey Litsy friends. I am going to an author reading in a couple of weeks with my favourite author Peter Robinson as well as Roddy Doyle. I have not read anything by him. Are there any fans out there who could recommend one of his books as a good place to start? Thanks!

Onioons Do you mean by Roddy Doyle? If so, you might have seen the film The Commitments? Or The Deportees is a set of his short stories. He's very funny but in a very Irish context 😊 (edited) 6y

Middle grade book about the children of Dublin battling the black dog of depression to save the adults and the city. Clever with several surprising spots of humor. Doyle is a dialogue master. A little repetitious, but child-empowering. Some important stuff here.

This little middle-grade book just stole my heart in one sitting. Beautiful, precious, important, sweet, touching, clever, funny... and brilliant.

(And oh how I want to go back to Dublin.)
