Originally titled ‘to my critics‘, renamed ‘Goldfish‘ on the advice of friends 😂🔥

Thanks for coming on this mini art journey with me! I think I‘ll be hitting up 759.36 at the library next time I‘m there to see what else they have!!

Sace I have thoroughly enjoyed it. 5y
llwheeler Thanks for posting these! I was only familiar with the first one, it's great to see some others. 5y

Rumour has it that when Klimt asked Frederike Maria Beer why she wanted a portrait by him as well as Schiele, she said that only Klimt would make her immortal.

Fair enough, this is stunning.

Sace Thank you for these posts. ❤️ 5y

The imprisoned Danae is ‘visited‘ by the (Greek) god Zeus, who has changed himself into a golden shower.

There is a more famous painting of Adele Bloch-Bauer - all done in gold... but I rather like this one, Adele Bloch-Bauer II...

I‘m just going to share my favourites!! Hope you don‘t mind a little art journey 🎨

Lady with a hat and feather boa. Painted two years after ‘The Kiss‘, all the gold, rich ornamentation and flourishes have been abandoned. The picture is plainer, more Expressionist - and seemingly full of secrets and hints.

Sace I look forward to it! 5y

A friend sent me a postcard from Vienna featuring this painting (The Kiss) by Gustav Klimt... I‘d not heard of him before so *obviously* the first port of call was the library...

Leftcoastzen Wonderful artist ! 5y
LibrarianRyan The Woman in gold is a book and a movie about another Klimt painting, and it's theft during WW2 and one woman's quest to get it back. I never liked them in pictures, until I saw this real painting at MoMA. It was amazing! 5y
TheSpineView Love this artist! I have this print in my bedroom.❤ 5y

thegirlwiththelibrarybag @TheSpineView, I‘ve got the postcard on my work desk - and I love it! Daydreaming about going to Vienna myself now! 5y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @LibrarianRyan, interesting! It‘s amazing how many painting have been stolen and recovered (or not). I haven‘t seen any in real life (yet) 🤩 5y
LibrarianRyan @thegirlwiththelibrarybag One year in New York I spent the day at MoMA. Half the place was shut down for renovations, so everything was shoved together with paintings on top of paintings. But I remember thinking that the real things are so much better. There are certain artists, I just didn't get until i saw it in person. Stary Night, Klimt, and Waterlilies (It's MASSIVE). 5y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @LibrarianRyan, you can‘t beat standing in front of art and examining them with your own eyes. I‘ve only been to MoMA once (I live in Melbourne, Australia) but hope to go again one day. I prefer the version of Starry Night that is in Paris (in the Musee d‘Orsay). 5y
erzascarletbookgasm Oh I have a bookmark of this! 5y
