Hugh Lofting’s tales of Doctor Dolittle, the kind and eccentric naturalist who can speak with the animals, have been classics of children’s literature for a century. They have now been assembled in their entirety in this beautiful four volume collection, fully updated for the modern reader by the author’s son, Christopher Lofting. Discover the world of Doctor Dolittle with the first three books of this beloved children’s series! Here are the good Doctor’s three exciting tales of world travel, beginning with his greatest adventure. In The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle, winner of the prestigious Newbery Medal, the Doctor and his young assistant, Tommy Stubbins, travel in search of the brilliant naturalist Long Arrow, culminating in a meeting with the most fabled creature of all, the Great Glass Sea Snail! The Story of Doctor Dolittle details how the Doctor came to learn the languages of animals, and how he was called to Africa where he meets the rarest of all beasts, the marvelous two-headed pushmi-pullyu! And in another African adventure, Doctor Dolittle’s Post Office, the Doctor establishes the only postal service in the world where birds deliver the mail!

Pickpick

My library only has the first two books in the Dr. Dolittle series. With Robert Downey, Jr.'s new movie coming out, I had to read it. I really loved these books!! At times, you can tell what time period these books were written, but overall I loved the animal's personalities. The stories were quick pace, funny and interesting. If you haven't read these to your children or for yourself, do yourself a favor and add them to your TBR pile.

Tonton Glad the books are being re-released but love the original illustrations; all part of the magic for me. 5y
LibrarianRyan @Tonton I have an original of book 1, which I read as a child. And your right it holds that place of magic. But I can honestly say I saw the movie before I read the books. I love the Rex Harrison Movie, no matter how much others hate it. 5y
