This is such a beautiful, southwest inspired comic book about death that didn't get nearly as much hype as I thought it deserved when it came out.

While the art is pretty, the overall story felt incoherent and rushed, a few times I was just absolutely confused. The whole idea though was fascinating and I wish it had been more flushed out more.

For #Under250pages I read my first graphic novel of the year. The story had its strengths, especially Kelly Sue DeConnick‘s gritty dialogue that fit perfectly in the Old West setting. Unfortunately, the story gets too convoluted for its own good, and the art is so opaque it can hard to make out who did what. Some great ideas hindered by a so-so execution!

One of my favorite comic series is finally back and it was a long wait but it was so worth it. The first issue was the perfect start to the new volume and the art was stunning as always.

I greatly enjoyed the second volume over the first. I got very confused in volume one, especially with the character development. However, that wasn't present in volume two and I was able to just enjoy the story. Oh, and I LOVED Bunny and Butterfly!

Knocked off another Read Harder challenge task - this is western but crossed with some serious high fantasy. Deconnick drops you right into the middle of the story and keeps her foot on the gas. Loved the frame story of Bunny and Butterfly. I liked most of the art except some pages felt like a linking panel was missing or that I wasn‘t quite sure what order I should use to read them.

Not for me at all. Story and panels can get convoluted and confusing. Westerns aren‘t my thing either. I‘ll stick with Bitch Planet.

I'm not a fan of Westerns, but a huge fan of Kelly Sue DeConnick so I gave it a shot for #letsgetgraphicweeklongmarathon . I liked it, it's pretty gruesome, but I suppose that's to be expected when death is an actual character.

I'm not big on Westerns, but I found this comic by Bitch Planet author Kelly Sue DeConnick pretty fascinating. The story isn't easy to follow, but the art is magnificent. 🤠 #emojinov @RealLifeReading

This was a gorgeous comic. The mythology was really interesting, and it read like a mix of manga and western with characters such as Death, Coyote, Crow, and Death's daughter. I'll definitely pick up the next volume.

Interesting story and awesome artwork. Mixes the supernatural and the old west and lots & lots of blood💀👍

Love, love, love this! An epic western tale of death falling in love with girl who wants to end death for everyone to re-enter the world. The only thing keeping chaos from breaking free is the harbinger of revenge ( their love child Ginny) and a mysterious orphan girl named Sissy. Amazing art and story!

An epic tale of the time death fell in love and almost screwed up the world, set in an old western town. Amazing art! Beautiful storytelling! Strong female leads ( sorry boys....this is 80% girl ass kicking).

Okay I chilled out and got some gummy worms. Here is part of my comic haul today. All partial series that I've been meaning to read. Thrilled I found "Pretty Deadly" v. 1&2, and I'm looking forward to reading more of "The Wicked & The Divine" cos that first trade slayed me.

I weren't into this knowing nothing except that I enjoy Kelly Sue Deconnick, and I was so lost at the beginning. I did find my way and now I can't wait to read the second volume. Also, I LOVED the art and the colors, but like others have said I had a hard time following some of the fight scenes.

Ugh. Didn't enjoy this one at all.

Graphic novel type of night.

Has anyone read this before? It seems to be turning out like a midwestern, gothic fairytale.

YYYYYEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!

This one was hard for me to rate. The book was a little too violent for me, and the graphic nature of the art made it hard for me to follow what exactly happened in some of the fight scenes. However, the story is tight and gripping and I was left wanting to know what happens to the characters next, so I'm going to pick up volume 2 next year. All that adds up to a pick from me!

Once in a blue moon I like to drink drip coffee in the morning instead of my usual espresso-based coffee. Today was such a day. I don't really know anything about Pretty Deadly besides the author and artist. I haven't read a lot of western comic books, besides Lucky Luke, Jonah Hex and Blueberry... of course.

I'd call it supernatural western 😉 👍 Dark, action, and mystery. I admit that I had to read it twice, but in the end I enjoyed the story and am curious where it will take me ☺️

Deadly Class is set in San Francisco in the 1980s. A school of disaffected teens are in training to be assassins. The violence can be over the top, but great writing.

Pretty Deadly is a paranormal western. A bit esoteric, but the art is breathtaking.

Rachel Rising is an awesome story about a woman who comes back from the dead. Great characters and a cool black and white palette.

Sitting down for a quick post-run read. This looks super promising!

I wasn't a huge fan of this one; the story was sort of interesting but I didn't love the art and overall Ijust didn't like it very much. I won't be continuing with volume 2.

I've heard really good things about this one--definitely strange so far. #readathon

This is the next graphic novel/comic on my tbr list. I bought it this summer at Printer's Row because I liked the cover. #octphotochallenge

Kind of creepy but good. I like the tale within a tale within a take aspect and I thought the story line was unique for a personification of death storyline. I don't read westerns or watch westerns, so I can't speak to the novel from that perspective, but for those who legend tales this is a good read. I like this Death better than Death in Sandman, he more mean and crazy. Read if you like lyrical tales and enjoy personification of concepts

A dream-like supernatural western about Death + Reapers + a little orphan girl in a vulture cloak. Dense with ideas--a woman dissolves into a flock of monarch butterflies when shot, and a rabbit's skeleton narrates in a surreal frame story--it can sometimes be difficult to follow (especially during its brutal, rapid-fire fight scenes) but take it as visual poetry with the unreality of myth, and enjoy the trip.

DeConnick's myth making & Rios' artwork make this the best #comic since Sandman...probably better

Not quite Captain Marvel...

Very weird, left me feeling like I wasn't quite sure what the story was about, but wanting more if the characters.

I've had these comics for at least two years and finally got around to reading them. A western with magical and mythical elements. Gorgeous art, kinda gritty.

Pretty deadly boring😴. Liked the art work, though.
