Christmas is coming to Denver, Colorado, but it isn't only snow that's falling. In the Friday Edition, the first in a continuing mystery series featuring newspaper reporter Samantha Church, a beautiful young woman, who also happens to be a Truman County Assistant District Attorney, tumbles from her apartment balcony to her death on Christmas Eve.The incident is ruled a suicide, but Samantha, the DA's sister, isn't buying it. Feverishly Samantha throws herself into finding out what really happened to her sister, Robin Marino. She pursues her sister's killers, maneuvering through a minefield of intrigue deliberately set out to divert her from the truth. Samantha invariably stumbles when confronted by the inescapable specter of a greater enemy: the alcohol dependency that has already cost her the respect of her peers, and, worse, custody of her daughter, April.Samantha must summon the courage to face not only a cartel of criminals, but also her own demons. Physically threatened and betrayed, she nearly defeats herself through her own insecurities and fears. She not only must summon the courage to get beyond her own shortcomings, but she must work quickly to beat her nemesis a reporter at the major metropolitan daily newspaper, who is also in rapid pursuit of the developing story.Samantha must find out who killed Robin before it is too late. But can she ultimately prevail, write the biggest story of her career, and finally begin to change her life before it is too late?If you love the characters of other popular best-selling mysteries from Patricia Cornwell, to J.A. Jance, to Tony Hillerman, you will want to follow the journey of Samantha Church.

I read this one in an effort to read some of the random books I downloaded to my Kindle and never read. The bones of the story were decent but it needed an editor VERY badly.

CocoReads That‘s always a disappointment. Hoping the next book is better! 3y

1) I worked from home every day this week.
2) Terlingua
3) Prefer apple pie, but diabetic, so, neither
4) A little... I still have work to do but a lot less email to answer on Saturday.
5) Will do.

Thanks to @gradcat for the tag!

ImperfectCJ I'd never heard of Terlingua until this post, but now I have to go there. 5y
gradcat You‘re very welcome! Speaking of Terlingua, have you ever heard of an album called “¡Viva Terlingua!” by Jerry Jeff Walker? 5y
Exbrarian @gradcat Of course. I can't say Cosmic Cowboy is my most listened to genre, but I'm very familiar with it. It's unfortunate that Viva Terlingua was actually recorded in Luckenbach, TX. 5y

gradcat Oh, god...didn‘t he have a song by that title on that very album? Or was it another album? Oops, I meant a song titled “Luckenbach, Texas.” (edited) 5y
Exbrarian @gradcat the song was by Waylon Jennings. Also, a 70's c&w hit, but it came later. 5y
gradcat @exbrarian Thanks for the correction. I couldn‘t remember, but I listened to tons of the “outlaw” country music music back in the day. 😊 5y
Exbrarian I'd say punk rock influenced me more than anything, but I was raised on zydeco, and outlaw country. The first record I ever bought was Glenn Campbell, and when I was 5 years old I proudly declared that I was going to be Buck Owens when I grew up. Dwight Yoakum beat me to it, though 😁 5y
gradcat You‘re hilarious! Given that I was born & raised in Louisiana, zydeco is near & dear to my heart! And I love, love, love Glen Campbell...it was so sad at the end with him. “Wichita Lineman” is one of my favorite songs. I don‘t like country as much anymore, but I don‘t hate all of it. I‘m more of an alternative-listening type (but a lot of music fits into that genre 😂). 5y

To make myself read more of the hundreds of unread books I own, I used a Random Number Generator and my Good Reads to-read list. This was the first pick. Not very well written and I found myself skimming a lot. Hopefully the next random book is amazing!
