Why?
Why? | Adam Rex
3 posts | 5 read
This sweet book will appeal to anyone familiar with the universal tendency of young children to always ask WHY? When supervillain Doctor X-Ray swoops in threatening to vanquish an innocent crowd, the only one brave enough not to run away is a little girl, who asks him simply, "Why?" He is taken abackbut he answers. She keeps asking. And he keeps answeringuntil a surprising truth is uncovered, and the villain is thwarted. In this laugh-out-loud take on the small-and-determined-beats-big-loud-bully story, simple questions lead to profound answers in a quest that proves the ultimate power of curiosity.

#NewYearNewYou Day 8: All #ChildProdigy ask infinite “Why?” This is a hilarious, multi-layered picturebook that would not only appeal to a child‘s sensibility, but to adults (umm… men, I think) who may be suffering from God complexes, and wondering about whether they are indeed heroes or villains. Can one small word asked over & over by one small girl defeat the plans of Doctor X-Ray when he descends on the mall bent on world domination? You‘ll have to read this absolutely delightful picture book to find out but any parent or teacher who has had to deal with a curious mind & it‘s quest to know “why?” likely already knows the answer. Best of all? Villainous laughter is definitely required when reading aloud & that‘s always fun! Recommended.

From the moment Rex casts on readers, he controls the tension & whipstiches it together in the end. (There‘s a knitting connection 🧶 and a humanized supervillain 🦹‍♂️ because it‘s Adam Rex.) #picturebook
