Knowing nothing about immigrants to New Zealand and the native Maori tribes; I was swept up in the lives of Ida Lange, a German immigrant and Cat, a white child through precarious circumstances adopted by a native Maori tribe. I loved these strong women in a time when they had very few choices and hard lives.
