I missed posting this on Sunday! We‘re on to Week 5 of the latest #LiteraryCrew #buddyread . I‘ve enjoyed seeing everyone‘s posts and reading the reviews of those who have finished. I‘m behind in the readings, so I really hope to catch up by the weekend. Anyone care to share anything about the week 4 segment, or even a comment in general about the book?

Laughterhp I‘m so behind on reading this book! 2d
Jerdencon Wish I had seen this was the book sooner - sounds like a great book and right up my alley. Just requested it from the library! 2d

Enjoyed this read enough to start digging through the history books/websites to learn more about the time, setting, and real life people this story was spun around. After the initial character development which was a bit slow but needed, I found myself not wanting to put it down.

We‘re moving into the middle part of the book this week! Any thoughts on the third week‘s readings? For me, now that I‘m into the rhythm of the narrative, I flew through this section. So many emotions in this part! I‘m really feeling for our heroine. #literarycrew #buddyread

Finished this one well ahead of our #LiteraryCrew schedule. I was enjoying too much to put it down. Great characters, and I loved how it brings to life a period and place in history (6th century Scotland) that almost never features in historical fiction. I think the next two books in the trilogy will feature more about the Merlin legend, and I‘m very much looking forward to them! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Week 2 Check in - how is going for everyone? Any thoughts to share thus far? My thoughts are below under a spoiler. #literarycrew #buddyread

Librarybelle I‘m liking this so far. Definitely a slow burn for me - I feel like I have to take my time to read each sentence. I don‘t mind that! I hardly know anything about this era, so I find it fascinating to see these two religions come to battle, of sorts. This week‘s section moves us into Part 2, where Languoreth is a few years older and near marriage age. It‘ll be interesting to see what happens next! 3w
Mishu94 I really want to read this trilogy but I don‘t know whether I should go for it or not :/ 3w
Librarybelle @Mishu94 I think it‘s good! I‘m learning a lot about the 6th century. 3w
See All 11 Comments
Mishu94 @Librarybelle so should I go for it? 3w
Librarybelle @Mishu94 I would recommend it. @cobwebmoth loved it so much she‘s already finished the book, so I‘m pretty sure she‘d also recommend it! The full trilogy isn‘t out yet, I think, so if you like reading the books back to back, you may have a wait. 3w
Crazeedi @Librarybelle I have first section done, 2nd not quite! So far it's ok, I thought I'd like it more, I'm hoping it pulls me in. I'll finish second part today! 3w
Laughterhp Just starting to get into this book! I‘m just starting chapter 8! Liking it so far, but it‘s a little slow. 2w
Librarybelle @Laughterhp Agreed - I like it, but it‘s a little slow 2w
lele1432 I'm just getting into it so I won't click the spoiler just yet lol but I'm enjoying it! 2w

Melissa_J I just about to start part five. I‘m really enjoying the book, although this is an instance where I wish an author‘s note had been included as part of the opening of the book rather than the end. I don‘t know anything about 6th century Scottish history, and some basic history (not spoiling the story) would be helpful. As it is I‘ve been googling as I go along. This one had a lot of interest when I posted some suggestions about a month ago, so we‘ll read this next! A bit of a departure for us, as this goes back way in history to 6th century Scotland. This was a white lady guilty pleasure book for me, and I loved it. It‘s marketed as Outlander meets Mists of Avalon, but it seems way less racy than Outlander (based on what little I‘ve read & trailers I‘ve seen). So Outlander fans - don‘t get your hopes up here. This book is far more about political intrigue than burning romance. But if you‘re in for medieval women manipulating the patriarchy, check this out!

This book is AWESOME.

The writing is strong, the characters are realistic, the story is engrossing. The author‘s note is even excellent... Pike has taken what might be the truth behind the legend of Merlin and spun it into a beautiful historical fiction saga focused on his twin sister and her medieval smashing of the patriarchy.

The audio narration is fantastic, but I‘m so getting this book in print. Can‘t wait for the next book.

I love Mists of Avalon and most narratives influenced by early British and Celtic mythology, so I was pretty much guaranteed to love this book. And it did not disappoint.

This is more of a straightforward historical novel than Mists of Avalon, but it‘s very well done. And, like Mists, it centers in large part on the shift from the old gods and goddesses worshipped by the early peoples of Britain to Christianity. Overall, fascinating and lovely.

Oh I actually did a real review for this one and it's long so go to GR for that but I THOROUGHLY enjoyed this. It follows a forgotten queen from 6th century Scotland who was the twin of the man believed to have developed into the myth of Merlin.

If you like historical fictions where you can tell the author studied the FUCK of the time, place and people, you'll like this. Not fast paced but steady with lots of political and religious drama

About halfway through and thoroughly enjoying it thus far. Langorueth is a delightful character that you truly begin to care for as you watch her grow. Stuck in the struggle between freedom and duty, she goes from being a girl to woman before our very eyes.

Although calling her a woman at the ripe age of 14 feels really weird 😏 BUT it's 16th century Scotland so...

A vibrant and enthralling tale. Only 8 chapters in but I'm already invested and in love with the characters. Can't wait to get to page 175 to open my first gift!

This was AMAZING. It‘s a huge story, and I felt the need of the author to condense things at the end, but even still, this is an achievement. I loved the characters. I loved the emotion. This is historical fiction with a slight fantasy feel, simply because the magic of that time seems so fantastical to us now. But the people then believed, and the author shows that so well with these characters. Highly recommend.

Penny_LiteraryHoarders Great!! I bought this one because it sounded like it would be great! 10mo
CharissaWeaksAuthor @Penny_LiteraryHoarders The audio is soooo good. I had the ARC but listened to the audio, lol. I‘ll also buy the hardback. That‘s how much I liked it. 10mo
tonyahoswalt I'm reading this now. I put it off for a while, because based on the character names, I was expecting it to be a dense time-consuming read. But it's actually going pretty fast. 10mo
CharissaWeaksAuthor @tonyahoswalt It‘s a really big story. I recommend the audio over the print at first, if possible. Not having to struggle with the words helps it flow much faster. 10mo

Started partway through my 8 hour drive home. It's so good! Normally I get tired of listening to an audiobook after an hour or two. Not with this one.

booklover984 I tried the audiobook before, it's not my thing. I wish it was, I could get so many more books in... 10mo

I have this ARC but I bought the audio to accompany, because holy narration. I love it! And I'm a hard-to-please listener. Recommend.
