I'm looking for books that students could read based on their interests as it relates to the course. The book does not have to cover every focus.

Butterfinger Would critical literacy pertain to life living?- Inheritance laws, tax forms, mechanical/engineering manuals? I don't even think I know what I'm talking about. 5y
DebbieGrillo Critical literacy is an instructional approach, stemming from Marxist critical pedagogy, that advocates the adoption of "critical" perspectives toward text. Critical literacy encourages readers to actively analyze texts and offers strategies for what proponents describe as uncovering underlying messages. @Butterfinger 5y
Butterfinger @DebbieGrillo very interesting. Thank you for explaining. Now let me see if I understand. This is fascinating to me. Would this be acceptable to the course? Solzhenitsyn and a Marxist essay to analyze how socialism could have worked or what made it fail? I think you could discuss many different themes in comparison. Am I closer than I was? 5y
SaunteringVaguelyDownwards The opening anecdote of Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott might be good for goal setting, especially if you introduce the SMART model (goals should be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-based). 5y
