1 post | 2 to read
From 1939 to 1943, about 185 refugees from Nazi-occupied Europe found refuge at Scattergood, a temporary hostel in what had been a Quaker boarding school near West Branch, Iowa. This book examines the refugees' backgrounds, their flight from Europe, and their arrival in America.

My dad visited Scattergood school yesterday and this author just happened to be speaking there. He stopped because his mother, my grandma, went to school there back in the 1920s. I'm fascinated by WW2 history and had no idea this school existed, and only an hour from me. It's still functioning as a Quaker school to this day.

LibrarianJen I love learning about things like this too! It really humanizes the war. 5y
