Without warning, Benjamin Sisko is living another life. No longer a Starfleet captain, commander of space station Deep Space Nine, he is Benny Russell, a struggling science fiction writer living in 1950s Harlem. Benny has a dream, of a place called Deep Space Nine and a man named Ben Sisko, and a story he has to tell. But is the Earth of that era ready for a black science fiction hero? Everyone tells him no, but Benny cannot abandon his dream. One way or another, he will tell the world about Captain Benjamin Sisko and Deep Space Nine.

What a beautiful, heartbreaking episode. Worthy of all the praise it gets! If you watch one episode of DS9 on Netflix today, make it this one. Is the whole series, everyone‘s life, the product of a black sci fi author in the 1950s? #FarBeyondtheStars #StarTrekSummerJune

KathyWheeler DS9 is my favorite Star Trek show and this is one of my favorite episodes. 5y
Megabooks @KathyWheeler It‘s between DS9 and TNG for me, but I think DS9 is overall better written. It‘s a fantastic episode!! 5y
Ruthiella Great episode! Ducat and Martok are better looking as a Cardassian and Klingon respectively IMO. Michael Dorn OTH is adorable as a human and a Klingon!😍 (edited) 5y
Megabooks @Ruthiella Marc Alaimo is pretty scary as both a cardassian and a cop!! Dorn is really cute. (edited) 5y

One of DS9's top 5 episodes, I've watched it a dozen times. It could have been smultzy or sappy, but instead it was touching and inspiring. Was weird to seeing Shimerman/Quark and Auberjonois/Odo as themselves with no make up.

DS9 6.13 #FarBeyondTheStars Most critically acclaimed DS9 episode, deservedly so. Maybe, just maybe, the life of Captain Benjamin Sisko was born of the mind of Harlem Renaissance scifi writer Benny Russell. Maybe, just maybe, the Prophets can make it so the Dreamer and the Dreamed imagine each other. It nearly broke Avery Brooks to play Benny. The breakdown scene in the writers' room? That was not acting. #startreksummerjune
