The Talk in Jane Austen
The Talk in Jane Austen | Jane Austen Society of North America
1 post
Jane Austens novels have been widely read and discussed, but one topic that is rarely studied is her use of speech. In this volume, writers from around the world consider Austens sometimes playful, always witty and significant use of dialogue. Features contributions from Juliet McMaster, Isobel Grundy, Linda Bree, Gary Kelly, Jan Fergus, Jocelyn Harris, Kay Young and others.

Last weekend I went to Holly Springs, MS for a meetup between the Middle Tennessee and Mississippi chapters of JASNA, and it was SO. FUN. There were two speakers covering parties in Austen's books and silhouette representations during the period, and tons of Austen-y goodies and conversation. Plus I think I had the most Southern lunch ever, all ladies' garden club style. All in an incredibly charming town. And that was just Saturday! More later.

robinb Wow, that sounds like such a neat time...so cool! 😎 5y
LeahBergen That sounds amazing! I was really thinking of going to the big meeting in Williamsburg this year but 🤷🏻‍♀️. Maybe next year! 5y
Librarybelle I have to get to a JASNA meeting...they look incredibly fun, and my chapter in Eastern PA is always doing incredibly neat events! 5y

ferskner @LeahBergen I know, it sounded so fun! It sounds like it sold out really quickly, and I can see why with a location like that. 5y
ferskner @Librarybelle @sammisho You really need to! I just barely got involved but I've enjoyed it so much and already feel like I got my membership's worth out of it. 5y
