A Potato on a Bike
A Potato on a Bike | Elise Gravel
3 posts | 3 read
This delightful board book will make the little ones in your life giggle at the absurdity of a fly on the phone and a carrot in the tub. The text's repeated asking Have you ever seen...? preceding the refrain No way! will have toddlers yelling "No way!" themselves as you read through these silly situations. Celebrated artist Elise Gravel brings the silly to a new level in A Potato on a Bike, because really, has anyone ever seen a broccoli counting to ten or a sausage reading a book? But wait, how about a...baby being tickled?! Uh-oh, I think the answer for that is--yes way!

This would make a very fun story time read. I could really see the audience getting in on the “No Way” portions. And it could easily be turned into a puppet or storyboard story. It is very similar to the Down By the Bay song where it asks over and over again if you have ever seen something ridiculous. The illustrations are spot on simple, making this a very enjoyable read.

rubyslippersreads I guess I must be the only person in the world who finds this emoji repulsive. 😏 5y

LibrarianRyan @rubyslippersreads Not at all. Not my fav emoji either, and the book is not emoji, but I figured this picture would get the most listy laughs. 5y
Zelma @rubyslippersreads you‘re not. I don‘t like it either (and not being critical of you all, @LibrarianRyan , just agreeing with the sentiment). 5y
LibrarianRyan @Zelma Didn't think anyone is being critical. I have a tendency to use what will get kids attention most. Like telling kids that Percy Jackson cuts his teacher in half in the first few chapters of the Lightening thief. School librarian hates it, but it always gets the kids interest. 5y
rubyslippersreads @Zelma @LibrarianRyan I‘m sure kids think it‘s hilarious. And obviously Sir Patrick Stewart approves. 😄 5y
