The Jeeves Omnibus - Vol 1
The Jeeves Omnibus - Vol 1: (Jeeves & Wooster) | P.G. Wodehouse
6 posts | 5 read
‘You don’t analyse such sunlit perfection: you just bask in its warmth and splendour.’ - Stephen Fry P.G. Wodehouse's Jeeves & Wooster novels are rightly regarded as the pinnacle of comic writing. These side-splitting tales of the bumbling aristocrat and his all-talented manservant hold a special place in literary history, and now - for the first time - this omnibus collection compiles three of Wodehouse's most celebrated works. Thank You, Jeeves Bertie disappears to the country as a guest of his chum Chuffy – only to find his peace shattered by the arrival of his ex-fiancée Pauline Stoker, her formidable father, and an eminent loony-doctor. When Chuffy falls in love with Pauline and Bertie seems to be caught in flagrante, a situation boils up which only Jeeves (whether employed or not) can simmer down . . . The Code of the Woosters Purloining an antique cow creamer under the instruction of the indomitable Aunt Dahlia is the least of Bertie’s tasks, especially when forced to play Cupid while feuding with the delusional fascist Roderick Spode . . . The Inimitable Jeeves In pages stalked by the carnivorous Aunt Agatha, Bingo Little embarks on a relationship rollercoaster and Bertie needs Jeeves’s help to narrowly evade the clutches of terrifying Honoria Glossop . . .

Pickpick

Chronologically, though not as they appear here, the books started as linked short stories and then became novels, which I found funnier. I still prefer Blandings to Jeeves though.

But then one has got to take into consideration the fact that when I‘ve been with him he has generally been eating steak-and-kidney pudding or cursing horses for not running fast enough. On such occasions, the poetic side of a man is not uppermost.

Why are the Jeeves omnibuses not in chronological order?
😡
Volume 1 has novels 4, 6, 1
Volume 2 has novels 5, 7, 2
Volume 3 has novels 8, 9, 3
😤

rabbitprincess That's annoying! 5y

Using the LT image for the thumbnail as the ebook doesn't have a cover picture.

I don‘t know if you have ever leaped between the sheets, all ready for a spot of sleep, and received an unforeseen lizard up the left pyjama leg? It is an experience that puts its stamp on a man.
