#OnThisDay in 1990 Alicia Girón García became the first female director of the Biblioteca Nacional de España. She began her career in 1969 in Madrid, and in the 80s she was deputy director-general of libraries within the Ministry of Culture, helping draft a law mandating a library in any settlement of over 5000 people.
